It is narrated from Abdullah bin Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) that the sister of Hazrat Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) had vowed to perform Hajj on foot without wearing a shawl. Hazrat Uqbah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about this, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: What will Allah do with your sister’s hardship? Instruct her to wear a shawl, ride (an animal), and fast for three days.

It is narrated from Hazrat Uqbah bin Aamir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Whoever commits a sin and then starts doing good deeds, his example is like that of a person who is wearing such a tight shirt that it is choking his neck. Then he performs a good deed and one of its loops opens, then he does another good deed and the second loop also opens, until he becomes free from it and comes out onto the earth.

Then he recited a surah from the Holy Qur'an, and he was an excellent reciter. Hazrat Uqbah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say that many people will recite the Qur'an but it will not go beyond their throats; they will go out of the religion just as an arrow passes out of the prey.

One day, when it was my turn and I took them out at noon, I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) standing before the people and addressing them. What I heard at that moment was this: Whoever among you performs ablution and does it well, then stands and offers two rak‘ahs in which he turns his heart and face attentively towards Allah, Paradise becomes obligatory for him and all his sins are forgiven. I said, "How excellent this is!" Upon this, the man ahead of me said, "Uqbah! The statement before this was even better." I looked and saw that it was Hazrat Umar Farooq (may Allah be pleased with him). I asked, "O Abu Hafs! What is that statement?" He replied, "Before you came, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever among you performs ablution and does it well, then says: 'Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah wahdahu la sharika lahu wa anna Muhammadan abduhu wa rasuluhu' (I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, He is alone, He has no partner, and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger), then all eight gates of Paradise will be opened for him, and he may enter through whichever gate he wishes."
