It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to him while he was eating chicken. That man sat to one side and said, "I have sworn an oath that I will not eat it because I see chickens eating filth." He (Abu Musa) said, "Come closer, for I will tell you about this. Once, I was with a group of Ash'aris in the service of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). We requested riding animals from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so he said, 'By Allah! I cannot mount you, for I have nothing to mount you on.' We waited for a while, as long as Allah willed, then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered for three camels with bright foreheads for us. When we were about to leave, one of us said to another, 'We came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to request riding animals, and he swore an oath that he would not give us riding animals. Let us go back and remind the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) of his oath.' So we again presented ourselves before the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, 'O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! We came to you to request riding animals, and you swore an oath that you would not give us riding animals, yet you gave us animals?' The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, 'I did not mount you, but Allah did. By Allah! If Allah wills, whenever I swear an oath and see something better in another matter, I will choose that and offer expiation for my oath.'" The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught us the prayer and its method and said: The imam is appointed only to be followed, so when he says the takbeer, you also say the takbeer, and when he says "ghayril maghdubi 'alayhim walad-dallin," then say "Ameen," Allah will accept it. When he bows (for ruku'), you also bow; when he raises his head, you also raise your heads. When he says "Sami' Allahu liman hamidah," then you say "Rabbana lakal hamd," Allah will surely listen to you. When he prostrates, you also prostrate; when he raises his head, you also raise your heads, because the imam will prostrate before you and will raise his head before you; this will suffice in its place.

Tell me, one man fights for war booty, another fights to prove his bravery, and another fights for show (ostentation); among them, who is the one fighting in the way of Allah?" The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "The one who fights so that the word of Allah is exalted, he is the one fighting in the way of Allah."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I presented myself before the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and some people from my tribe were with me. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Accept the glad tidings and convey them to those who are left behind you, that whoever bears witness with a sincere heart that there is no god but Allah will enter Paradise." We left the presence of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and began to convey this glad tidings to the people. Suddenly, Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came before us. He took us back to the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! In this way, people will rely on this and just sit back." Upon this, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me towards Yemen. I submitted, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! There are some drinks prevalent there. Which of those drinks should I drink and which should I leave?" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked the names of those drinks. I told him, "Taba‘ and Mizr." But the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not understand what kind of drinks these were, so he asked, "What is Taba‘ and Mizr?" I submitted, "Taba‘ refers to the nabidh of barley which is well-cooked, and Mizr refers to the nabidh of honey." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Do not drink anything intoxicating."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we were with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) on a journey of jihad. Whenever we ascended a hill or a high place or descended into a valley, we would say Takbeer in a loud voice. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) came close to us and said: O people! Be gentle with yourselves, you are not calling upon a deaf or absent Allah, you are calling upon the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing, who is closer to you than the neck of your mount. O Abdullah bin Qais, shall I not tell you about one of the treasures of Paradise? I said: Why not, O Messenger of Allah. He said: "La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah" (There is no power and no strength except with Allah) is one of the treasures of Paradise.

Once Abu Burdah narrated to Umar bin Abdul Aziz (may Allah be pleased with him) a hadith from his father, that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whenever a Muslim dies, Allah Almighty admits a Jew or a Christian into Hell in his place." When Abu Burdah narrated the previous hadith to Umar bin Abdul Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him), he asked Abu Burdah to swear by the name of Allah, besides whom there is no deity, that his father narrated this hadith and that he heard it from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). And Saeed bin Abi Burdah does not refute what 'Awf said.
