And this is of the same kind that I have explained in other places in our books: that the report which must be accepted is the report of one who informs about seeing, hearing, and the existence of a thing, not of one who negates and denies a thing. And Al-Fadl ibn Abbas, in his statement: "and he did not pray," is negating the prayer of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, therein, not affirming a report. And whoever informs that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, prayed therein is affirming an action, informing about seeing an action from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Therefore, it is obligatory, by way of knowledge and investigation, to accept the report of one who informs that he saw the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, pray therein, rather than one who negates that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, prayed therein. And this is a lengthy issue which I have clarified in other places in our books, that the people of knowledge have not differed regarding the general principle of this statement.

But Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) did not ask how many rak‘ahs he had prayed.

He replied, "Between the two front pillars." But I forgot to ask him how many units of prayer he performed. This narration is from Muhammad bin Amr.
