Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah
Evidence that entering the Kaaba is not obligatory.
Hadith Number: Q3014
When the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, had entered it, he later informed that he wished he had not entered it, out of fear of burdening his ummah after him. And this is like his, peace and blessings be upon him, leaving off some voluntary acts, which he used to love to do, intending to make things easier for his ummah, peace and blessings be upon him.

Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) left from me in a very happy and cheerful state. Then he returned to me and he was very sad. I said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), you left me very happy and delighted, and now you appear sorrowful." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I entered the Sacred Ka'bah, and I wish that I had not entered it. I fear that I have put my Ummah into difficulty and hardship after me."

Ibn Jurayj says that I asked Imam Ata:“Did you hear Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) saying: ‘Indeed, you have been commanded to perform Tawaf, and you have not been commanded to enter the Sacred House (Baytullah)?’”He replied, Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) did not prohibit entering the Sacred House, but I have heard him say this. Sayyiduna Usama bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with them both) informed me that when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) entered the Sacred House, then when he came out, he performed two rak‘ahs in front of the Sacred House and said:“This is the Qiblah.”

Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) entered the Sacred House (the Ka'bah). When I arrived there, he had already come out, while Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) was standing at the door of the Ka'bah. I asked, "O Bilal, where did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) pray?" He replied, "He prayed here." He (Ibn Umar) says, then he (the Prophet) came out and prayed two rak'ahs between the Black Stone and the door of the Sacred House. Sayyiduna Saif says: Imam Mujahid used to say that he (the Prophet) prayed between the pillars on the side of the Banu Makhzum's door. Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says that what he means is that Imam Mujahid used to say that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed inside the Ka'bah between those pillars which were on the side of the Banu Makhzum's door.

Provided that Yazid bin Abi Ziyad meets the condition which we mentioned at the beginning of the book.
Hadith Number: 3017
Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Safwan (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) conquered Makkah Mukarramah, I said to myself that I should put on my clothes. In another narration, Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Safwan narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Makkah Mukarramah and entered the Sacred House (Baytullah). I also put on my clothes and went (to see him). By that time, he had come out of the Sacred House. He and his noble companions were performing istilam (touching or gesturing) of the area between Hajar Aswad and Hatim, and they had placed their cheeks against the Sacred House. Suddenly, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by the door, so I pushed myself between two men and asked, "What did the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) do inside the Sacred House?" They replied, "He prayed two rak‘ahs by the pillar in front of the Sacred House." This narration is from Janab Ibn Fudayl.

Recommendation to pray in the Hijr if unable to enter the Kaaba, as part of the Hijr is from the House.

By mentioning a report whose wording is general but its intent is specific, I am afraid that some people may hear this report which I mentioned, whose wording is general but its intent is specific, and imagine that the entire Hijr is from the Ka‘bah, not just a part of it.
Hadith Number: 3018
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that I greatly desired to enter the Sacred House (the Ka'bah) and perform prayer inside it. So, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) took my hand and made me enter the Hatim and said: "O Aisha, when your people constructed the Sacred House, their funds fell short, so they left the Hatim outside the construction of the House. Therefore, when you wish to pray inside the Sacred House, perform your prayer in the Hatim, for it is also a part of the House."

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If your people had not recently come out of disbelief, I would have included Hatim within the Sacred House of Allah." Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says that I have mentioned a narration similar to these words in Kitab al-Kabir, whose wording is general but the intended meaning is specific.

Clarification that only part of the Hijr is from the Kaaba, not all of it.
Hadith Number: Q3020
And the evidence [عَلَى] is that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, only intended by his saying:“And they took the Hijr out of the House,”a part of it, not all of it. And this is of the same kind that I have indicated in more than one place in our books, that the definite noun with“al-”may refer to a part of the thing.
