Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Avoid the seven destructive sins. The companions asked, "O Messenger of Allah, what are they?" He replied: Associating partners with Allah, practicing magic, killing a soul which Allah has forbidden except by right, consuming usury, consuming the property of an orphan, fleeing from the battlefield, and slandering chaste, innocent, believing women.

Narrated Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them): The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Indeed, among the greatest of sins is that a person curses his own parents. It was asked: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! How can a person curse his own parents? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: He abuses another person's parents, so that person (in response) abuses his parents.

Sayyiduna Abu Dharr Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: (In a dream, a visitor from my Lord) came to me (an angel), he informed me—or you said: he gave me glad tidings—that whoever from my Ummah dies in such a state that he has not associated anything with Allah, he will enter Paradise. (Sayyiduna Abu Dharr [may Allah be pleased with him] says:) Upon this I asked, "Even if he has committed adultery, even if he has stolen?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "Yes, even if he has committed adultery, even if he has stolen."

Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that I came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and he was wearing a white garment and was sleeping. Then I came again and he had woken up. Then he said: Whoever among the servants accepts the statement "La ilaha illallah" (There is no deity except Allah) and dies upon it, will enter Paradise. I asked, even if he committed adultery? Even if he committed theft? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Even if he committed adultery, even if he committed theft. I asked again, even if he committed adultery? Even if he committed theft? He said: Even if he committed adultery, even if he committed theft. I (out of amazement) asked again, even if he committed adultery or committed theft? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Even if he committed adultery, even if he committed theft. Whenever Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated this hadith later, he would certainly mention the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "Even if Abu Dharr's nose is rubbed in dust."

Sayyiduna Miqdad bin Aswad, that is, Miqdad bin Amr Kindi (may Allah be pleased with him), was an ally of Banu Zuhrah and was with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the Battle of Badr. He reported that he asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): "If at any time I encounter a disbeliever and we both strive to kill each other, and he strikes my hand with a sword and cuts it off, then he flees from me and takes refuge under a tree and says, 'I have believed in Allah,' then, O Messenger of Allah, after his declaration, should I still kill him?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Then do not kill him." He said, "O Messenger of Allah, he has already cut off one of my hands, and he is declaring this after cutting off my hand?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) still said, "Do not kill him, because if you kill him, then before killing him, the position you had will now be his position, and your position will be the one he had at the time when he had not declared the testimony."

Sayyiduna Usama bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent us towards the tribe of Huraqa. We attacked them in the morning and defeated them. Then I and another Ansari companion confronted a man from this tribe (Mirdas bin Amr). When we overpowered him, he began to say "La ilaha illallah" (There is no god but Allah). The Ansari immediately stopped, but I killed him with my spear. When we returned, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was informed of this. He asked, "Usama, did you kill him even after he said 'La ilaha illallah'?" I replied, "He only said it to save himself (he did not say it from his heart)." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) kept repeating, "Did you kill him even after he said 'La ilaha illallah'?" until I wished that I had not accepted Islam before that day.
