Hazrat Imran bin Hadeer narrates that I asked Muhammad about the funeral prayer: so he said: We do not know that any specific supplication has been fixed in it; supplicate with any good supplication that you know.

Hazrat Ishaq bin Suwaid narrates that Hazrat Bakr bin Abdullah said: Nothing specific has been prescribed in the funeral prayer.

Musa al-Juhani narrates that I asked Hazrat Sha'bi, Hazrat Hakam, and Hazrat Ata, Hazrat Mujahid: Is there anything fixed in the funeral prayer? All these respected persons replied: No! Indeed, you are an intercessor. Intercede with whatever supplication you know best.

Hazrat Jami’ bin Shaddad narrates that Hazrat Mughith bin Samiyy said: Among the people before you, there was a man who used to commit sinful acts. Then one day, remembering Allah, he said: O Allah! I seek Your forgiveness, I seek Your forgiveness. So he was forgiven.

Hazrat Ibn Abi Awfa narrates that a Bedouin came to the service of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Teach me something that will suffice for me in place of the Qur'an, for indeed I am not able to recite any part of the Qur'an well. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: Recite these words: Allah is free from all defects, and all praise is for Allah, and there is no deity except Allah, and Allah is the Greatest, and there is no power to avoid sins nor strength to do good except with Allah's help. So the Bedouin counted these five phrases on his fingers. Then he left after a short while. Then he returned and said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! These words are for my Lord! So what is there for me? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Say: O Allah! Forgive me, have mercy on me, grant me sustenance, grant me well-being, and guide me. So the Bedouin counted these five things on his fingers as well. Then he left, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If the Bedouin fulfills what he has said, he has filled both his hands with goodness.

Hazrat Abu Salih narrates that a man from the Ansar was stung by a scorpion. When morning came, he went to the service of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! I remained awake the whole night because of the scorpion’s sting! The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If you had recited these words in the evening,“I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of His creation,”then the scorpion could not have harmed you until morning. Abu Salih says: So I taught these words to my son and daughter, and then both of them were stung by a scorpion. And they did not suffer any harm.

31784 - He said: Abu Salih (so I taught it) (1) to my daughter and my son, and they were stung but nothing harmed them.

Hazrat Abu Huraira narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever recites these words three times in the evening: "I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of His creation," then nothing can harm him that night. Hazrat Suhail says: Reciting these words became a habit for his family. Then a woman was stung, but she did not feel even the slightest pain.

31786 - Suhayl said (1): The people of that household had become accustomed to saying it (2): A woman was stung, and she did not feel any pain.

Hazrat Abu Huraira narrates that a man was brought to the service of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, who had been stung by a scorpion. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: In any case, if he had recited these words: I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of His creation, then he would not have been stung, or he said: he would not have been harmed.
