Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was in i'tikaf. He heard people reciting (the Qur'an) aloud, while he was in a tent. He lifted the curtain and said: Beware! Surely each one of you is whispering to his Lord, so let no one harm another, and let no one recite aloud near another in prayer.

Chapter on the Ruling of One Who Cannot Properly Recite the Obligatory Recitation
Hadith Number: 1597
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a man came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! I cannot recite the Qur’an, so command me with something that will suffice me in its place. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: Say: Alhamdulillah, Subhanallah, La ilaha illallah, Allahu Akbar, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah. (All praise is for Allah, Allah is pure, there is no deity except Allah, Allah is the Greatest, there is no power to avoid sin nor strength to do good except with Allah [‘s help] ). The man recited these words and closed his palm, as he had counted them on his fingers including the thumb, making five. Then he said: O Messenger of Allah! These (words) are for Allah, what is there for myself? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: For yourself, say: Allahumma ighfir li, warhamni, wa ‘afini, wahdini, warzuqni. (O Allah! Forgive me, have mercy on me, grant me well-being, guide me, and provide for me). He recited these (words) and closed his other palm, counting them on his fingers including the thumb, making five. Then the man left, with both his palms closed. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw him and said: Surely, he has filled both his hands with goodness.
