It is narrated from Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man said: "O Commander of the Faithful! A man has given the matter of his wife into her own hand." So Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Then the matter is now in her hand."

Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The verdict of“your matter is in your own hand”( «امرك بيدك» ) is exactly as the woman has decided.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa'id bin al-Musayyib (may Allah be pleased with him) that if a man delegated the matter to his wife and the wife returned the matter to the man, he said: "This is nothing; the decision is what the woman made."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa'id bin al-Musayyib (may Allah be pleased with him) that he used to say: "The decision is what the woman has made."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he used to say: "The decision is what the woman has made."

Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "When a man gives his wife the choice and she chooses one divorce, then it will be counted as one divorce; if she chooses two, then two; and if three, then three—unless the man denies it and says that he only gave her the choice of one divorce, then he should swear an oath. And if the woman returns the matter, then nothing (happens)." And he used to say: "The decision is what the woman has made."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him): "When a man gives his wife the right of choice and the wife pronounces three divorces, it will be counted as only one divorce."

It is narrated from Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: "If a man gives his wife the choice and the wife remains silent until both separate, then her silence is considered consent to her husband; now she will not have the choice at any other time."

Both Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair (may Allah have mercy on him) and Hazrat Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) also said the same.

Hazrat Jabir bin Zaid (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "When a man says to his wife, 'Your matter is in your own hands,' then whatever she says in that same sitting will be enforced. If both separate, then nothing (will be enforced). A man, while roaming in the market, cannot remain under the authority of his wife."
