Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There are three qualities, whoever possesses them will taste the sweetness of faith: One is that Allah and His Messenger are more beloved to him than anything else; (second) that he loves a person and he loves him only for the sake of Allah; and (third) that he hates to return to disbelief just as he would hate to be thrown into the fire."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Who will tell me about a tree whose example is like that of a believing servant, whose foundation is strong, and its branches are in the sky? It gives fruit at all times by the permission of its Lord." Sayyiduna Abdullah says: I intended to say that it is the date-palm tree, but due to the presence of my father, I could not do so. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is the date-palm tree. (Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, narrates later) I mentioned this to my father, so he said: If you had said this at that time, it would have been more beloved to me. The narrator says: I think the words in the narration are: more beloved than red camels.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Once we were sitting with the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). During that time, "Jumar" (the gum of the date-palm tree) was brought, so the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: There is a tree whose blessing is like that of a Muslim. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I thought that it would be the date-palm tree. Then I looked at those present, and I was the tenth person among ten people there, and I was the youngest among them. Therefore, I remained silent.
