Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "I have been commanded to fight the people until they say: There is no deity except Allah. Whoever says: There is no deity except Allah, will protect his life and his wealth from me, except for the right of Islam, and his reckoning is with Allah." Then Allah revealed a verse in His Book. Allah mentioned a people who showed arrogance. Allah said: "Indeed, these are the people who, when it is said to them: There is no deity except Allah, they show arrogance." Allah also said: "When those in whose hearts was disbelief harbored the arrogance of the time of ignorance, Allah sent down His tranquility upon His Messenger and upon the believers, and made them adhere to the word of piety." (Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) says:) Here, the word of piety means to say: There is no deity except Allah, and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. The polytheists showed arrogance regarding this at the occasion of Hudaybiyyah.

Abdur Rahman bin Abu Amrah Ansari narrates from his father: We were with the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in a battle, and the people were afflicted with severe hunger. They sought permission from the Prophet (peace be upon him) to slaughter some of their riding animals. Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! If we face the enemy on foot in a state of hunger, what will become of us? O Messenger of Allah! If you deem it appropriate, then tell the people to bring whatever food and drink they have left with them. The Prophet (peace be upon him) gave this order, so people began to bring those things; one person brought a handful of grain or a little more. The one who brought the most brought a sa’ of dates. The Prophet (peace be upon him) had all of it gathered on a cloth, then he supplicated to Allah as Allah willed, then he called the people to bring their vessels, and he began to pour the food into them, so there was not a single vessel in the army that was not filled, and the food remained as much as it was before. The Prophet (peace be upon him) smiled until his molar teeth became visible, and he said:“I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah, and I bear witness that I am the Messenger of Allah, and I bear witness before Allah that whoever among the believing servants comes before Allah with these two statements, then these two things will become a means of salvation from Hell for that person on the Day of Resurrection.”

They will be thrown into the River of Life, and they will burst forth from it just as a seed bursts forth on the bank of a flood stream.”The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Have you not seen it, how it is yellow in color and sways here and there?”

Sayyiduna Mahmood bin Rabee’ Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The companion of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), Sayyiduna ‘Itbaan bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), belonged to the Ansar and had the honor of participating in the Battle of Badr. Once, he presented himself before the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). He said: O Messenger of Allah! My eyesight has become weak. I lead the people of my neighborhood in prayer. When it rains, water flows between me and those people in the lower part (of the area), so I cannot reach their mosque to lead them in prayer. Therefore, O Messenger of Allah! I wish that you would come (to my house) and offer prayer at some place in my house, so that I may make that place my prayer area. The narrator states: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: I will do so soon. Sayyiduna ‘Itbaan (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The next day, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) came after the sun had risen. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sought permission to enter. I granted you permission. After entering the house, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not sit down first. He said: Where in your house do you like that I should offer prayer? The narrator says: I pointed to a corner of the house, so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood there and said the takbeer. We stood behind you. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) led us in two rak’ahs of prayer and then made salaam. The narrator says: We detained you to eat khazeerah (a special type of food) which we had prepared for you. The narrator says: Some people from the neighborhood also gathered around the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), until several people gathered in the house. One of them said: Where is Malik bin Dukhshun? Then another said: He is a hypocrite; he does not love Allah and His Messenger. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to that person: Do not say this about him. Have you not seen that he said: There is no god but Allah? He said this word seeking the pleasure of Allah. The people said: Allah and His Messenger know best. We have only noted that his attention and goodwill are for the hypocrites. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:“Indeed, Allah has made the Fire of Hell forbidden for the person who says ‘La ilaha illallah’ seeking the pleasure of Allah.”Ibn Shihab says: I asked Husayn bin Muhammad Ansari about this; he is a man from Banu Salim and among their elders. I asked him about the narration of Sayyiduna Mahmood bin Rabee’ (may Allah be pleased with him), and he confirmed this narration.

Each of them will be as large as the eye can see. Then He will say: Do you deny anything from this? Did the recording angels wrong you in any way? He will reply: No, my Lord! Allah Almighty will say: Do you have any excuse or any good deed? That person will be left astonished and will say: No, my Lord! Allah Almighty will say: Yes! You have one good deed with Us, and today you will not be wronged. Then a slip of paper will be brought forth before him, on which will be written: ‘I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah, and indeed Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His servant and His Messenger.’ Allah Almighty will say: Come to the scale. The servant will say: O my Lord! What is the worth of this slip of paper compared to these registers? Allah Almighty will say: You will not be wronged. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then all the registers will be placed on one side of the scale and the slip of paper will be placed on the other side, and the side with the registers will be lifted up and the side with the slip of paper will become heavy. Then Allah Almighty will say (or perhaps the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said this, or perhaps these are the words of a narrator): ‘Nothing is heavier than the Name of Allah.’”

So Imam Shabi replied: Abu Burdah has narrated from his father (Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari, may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There are three people who will be given a double reward. A person from the People of the Book who believed in his prophet, and then lived to see the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), believed in him and followed him, he will have a double reward. A slave who fulfills the right of Allah upon him and also fulfills the right of his master upon him, he too will have a double reward. And a person who has a slave-girl, provides her with good food, gives her good education and upbringing, then frees her and marries her, he will also have a double reward." Imam Shabi said to the man from Khurasan: "You have obtained this hadith without any compensation, otherwise previously, for a narration of lesser content than this, one had to travel all the way to Madinah Munawwarah."
