It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him), the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Believing in Allah and striving in His path are the best deeds."

Ala bin Ziyad narrates: A man asked Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him): Which believers are the best in Islam? He replied: "The best believers in Islam are those from whose tongue and hand other Muslims are safe. Striving against one's own self for the sake of Allah Almighty is the best jihad, and contending with one's own self and desires for the sake of Allah Almighty is the best migration (hijrah)." The man asked: O Abdullah bin Umar! Are these your words or those of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? He replied: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said these.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Amr bin Abasah (may Allah be pleased with him), the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Abandoning the things disliked by Allah Almighty is the best migration."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Fadala bin Ubaid (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: "Successful is the person who was guided to Islam, his livelihood is just sufficient for his needs, and he is content with that."

Abu Sakhr ‘Uqayli says: A Bedouin narrated to me, saying: I brought some merchandise to Madinah during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). After finishing my business, I said: I will certainly go to this man (meaning Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him) and listen to what he says. When I met the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) were also with him. He sent them back, and we went to a Jew who was reading the Torah, comforting himself with it, because his extremely handsome and beautiful young son was in the throes of life and death. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him:“I adjure you by the One Who sent down the Torah! Do you find mention of my attributes and my place of appearance in your Book?”He gestured with his head to indicate“No.”But his son said: Yes, by the One Who sent down the Torah! We do find mention of your attributes and your place of appearance in our Book, and I now bear witness that Allah alone is the true deity and you are the Messenger of Allah. (Upon hearing this) the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Remove this Jew from his brother.”He meant the Jew’s son, who had accepted Islam. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arranged for his shroud, applied perfume to him, and led his funeral prayer.

Sayyiduna Salamah bin Qais Ashja’i (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said during the Farewell Pilgrimage:“Beware! There are four things: Do not associate anyone with Allah, do not kill any soul which Allah has forbidden except by right, do not commit adultery, and do not steal.”When I heard these words from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), I will not be miserly in conveying them.

Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I used to perform the ‘Isha prayer in the Prophet’s Mosque, and after that, I would perform one rak‘ah of Witr. I was asked: Abu Ishaq! You perform only one rak‘ah of Witr (what is the reason)? I replied: Yes, I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say:“He acts with foresight who performs Witr before sleeping.”

Sayyiduna ‘Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and there was a golden cross around my neck. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:“Adi, throw away this idol.”Then I heard him recite this verse from Surah Bara’ah:“They have taken their scholars and monks as lords besides Allah.”I said: We did not worship them. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:“Be aware! They did not worship them, but when they declared something lawful, their followers considered it lawful, and when they declared something unlawful, their followers considered it unlawful. That was their worship of them.”

Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I will continue to fight the people until they testify that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah and believe in me and in the Shari'ah I have brought. When they do that, they will protect their lives and their wealth from me, except for the right of Islam, and their reckoning will be with Allah the Exalted."

Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I have been commanded to fight the people until they testify that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the servant and Messenger of Allah, (and also) that they face our Qiblah, eat our slaughtered animals, and perform our prayers. When they do this, their blood and wealth become forbidden to us, except by the right of Islam. They will have the same rights as the Muslims have, and the same responsibilities will be incumbent upon them as are upon the general Muslims."
