It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa‘id and Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) once delivered a lengthy sermon, mentioning matters of this world and the Hereafter, and said:“The first way the Children of Israel were destroyed was that the wife of a poor man would trouble her husband regarding clothes or jewelry, just as the wife of a wealthy man would. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned a short-statured woman from the Children of Israel: she had wooden sandals (khadaun) made and had a ring made, in which there was a hollow and a lid over it. She filled that hollow with musk and went out accompanied by two tall or heavily built women. They sent a man behind them; he recognized the two tall women but could not recognize the woman with the wooden sandals.”

It is narrated from Ali bin Hussain that Muswar bin Makhramah states: When the people returned to Madinah Munawwarah from Yazid bin Muawiyah after the martyrdom of Sayyiduna Hussain bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), I met Ali bin Hussain and said: Do you need anything from me? (If so,) command me. He said: No. I said: Will you give me the sword of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), because I fear that people might snatch it from you, and by Allah! If you give it to me, no one will be able to reach it until they kill me. Ali bin Abu Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) sent a marriage proposal to the daughter of Abu Jahl while Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) was still alive. I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) addressing the people on this matter, and at that time I was mature. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Indeed, Fatimah is a part of my body, and I fear that she may be subjected to a trial concerning her religion.”Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned his son-in-law, who was from the tribe of Banu Abd Shams, and praised his son-in-law greatly, saying:“He fulfilled what he said to me and honored the covenant he made. And (remember that) I do not make the lawful unlawful, nor the unlawful lawful, but (this much is certain) the daughter of a Prophet and the daughter of the enemy of Allah can never be united in one place or in the house of one husband.”

It is narrated from Sayyidah Umm Mubashshir Ansariyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a marriage proposal to Umm Mubashshir bint Bara bin Ma’rur. She replied that she had made a condition with her husband that she would not marry anyone after him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“This condition is not valid.”

Masruq and Amr bin Utbah wrote a letter to Sayyidah Subai’ah bint Harith (may Allah be pleased with her) and asked her to clarify her situation. She replied: My child was born twenty-five days after my husband’s death, and I prepared for another marriage. Abu Sanabil bin Ba’kkak passed by me and said: You are rushing; you should complete the longer of the two waiting periods, that is, four months and ten days. I went to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! Seek forgiveness for me. He said:“For what?”When I explained everything in detail, he said:“If you find a righteous man, then marry him.”(Your waiting period has ended.)

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Women are like men." This hadith is narrated from Lady Aisha and Anas (may Allah be pleased with them both), and there is also an incident related to it.

The wife of the Messenger, Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), says that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was commanded to give his wives the choice, he (peace be upon him) started with me and said: "I am going to present a matter before you; do not be hasty, rather consult your parents." (In reality) the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) knew that my parents would not command me to separate from him. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited these two verses: «يٰٓاَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ قُلْ لِّاَزْوَاجِكَ اِنْ كُنْتُنَّ تُرِدْنَ۔۔۔۔۔۔» (Surah «‏‏‏‏» Al-Ahzab: 28-29). I said: In what matter should I consult my parents? I desire Allah, His Messenger, and the Home of the Hereafter.

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) sought permission from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to enter... etc. In this hadith, it is also mentioned that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was sitting, and his wives were sitting around him, demanding maintenance and expenses. This verse was revealed: «يٰٓاَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ قُلْ لِّاَزْوَاجِكَ» The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Aisha, I intend to present something before you; I would like you to consult your parents and not be hasty." She said: O Messenger of Allah! What is the matter? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) recited this verse to her. She said: O Messenger of Allah! Should I consult my parents about you? I prefer Allah, His Messenger, and the Hereafter, and I request you not to inform your other wife about what I have said. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Any woman who asks me, I will tell her. Allah has not sent me as one who causes hardship and distress, but as a teacher and one who brings ease."

Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says that an old woman came to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was with me. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked her: "Who are you?" She said: "I am Juthamah Muzaniyyah." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are not Juthamah, you are Hassana Muzaniyyah. How are you? How have you been? How have you been after us?" She said: "O Messenger of Allah! May my parents be sacrificed for you, I am well and in safety." When she left, I said: "O Messenger of Allah! You pay so much attention to this old woman?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "She used to come to us during the time of Khadijah, and taking good care of such a person is part of faith."

Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I came to know when Lady Zainab (may Allah be pleased with her) entered without permission and she was angry. She said: O Messenger of Allah! Is it enough for you that this daughter of Abu Bakr spreads out her arms before you? Then she turned towards me (and started talking), I kept turning away (and did not reply), until the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Give your opponent her due." Then I responded to her in such a way that her saliva dried up and she could not reply to me. Then I looked at the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and his face was shining.

Abdur Rahman bin Salim bin Utbah bin Uwaim bin Sa'idah narrates from his father, and he from his grandfather, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Marry virgins, for they are sweet in speech, very fertile, and content with little wealth."
