It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Every inhabitant of Hell will see his place in Paradise and will say: 'Alas! If only Allah had guided me (then that place would have been my abode).' This will become a cause of regret and remorse for him. And every inhabitant of Paradise will see his place in Hell and will say: 'If Allah had not guided me (then that place would have been my abode).' This will become a cause for him to thank Allah Almighty." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) recited this verse: «أَنْ تَقُولَ نَفْسٌ يَا حَسْرَتَى عَلَى مَا فَرَّطْتُ فِي جَنْبِ اللَّـهِ» (39-az-Zumar:56) "(Lest) a soul should say: 'Alas, my grief that I neglected the duty to Allah and I was indeed among those who mocked.'"

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A person from among the people of Paradise will be brought, and Allah Almighty will say to him: 'O son of Adam! How did you find your abode?' He will say: 'O my Lord! It is the best abode.' Allah Almighty will say: 'Ask and wish for more.' He will say: 'What should I ask for and what should I wish for? Yes, if You return me to the world (then it is fine) so that I may be martyred ten times in Your path.' He will express this wish because of the virtue and honor of martyrdom. Then a person from among the people of Hell will be brought. Allah Almighty will ask: 'How did you find your abode?' He will say: 'O my Lord! It is the worst abode.' The Lord Almighty will say: 'Will you give the earth full of gold to be freed from it?' He will say: 'Yes, O my Lord!' Allah Almighty will say: 'You are lying, I had asked you for something less and easier than this, but you did not fulfill that either.' Then he will be returned to the Fire."

Sayyiduna Abu Wa’il (may Allah be pleased with him) said that someone said to Sayyiduna Usamah (may Allah be pleased with him):“Will you not go to Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) and speak to him about what he has done?”He replied:“Do you think that whatever I speak to him about, I will inform you people of it? I will speak to him privately without opening the door, because in the light of a hadith, I do not wish to be the first to open the door, nor can I say about my leader, if he is truly a leader, that he is the best of people.”It was asked:“Which hadith is that?”He said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“A man will be brought on the Day of Resurrection and thrown into the Fire. His intestines will come out and he will circle around them like a donkey circles around a millstone. The people will see him and say: ‘O so-and-so! Why were you thrown in here? You used to command us to do good and forbid us from evil!’ He will say: ‘I used to command you to do good, but I did not do it myself, and I used to forbid you from evil, but I did not refrain from it myself.’”
