Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us and in his hand were two books. He (peace be upon him) said: "Do you know what these books are?" We said: "No, O Messenger of Allah! Unless you inform us..." He (peace be upon him) said about the book held in his right hand: "This is a book from the Lord of the worlds. In it are the names of the people of Paradise, the names of their fathers, and the names of their tribes, and then their mention is summarized till the end. Now, nothing can be added to it nor subtracted from it." Then, regarding the book held in his left hand, he (peace be upon him) said: "This book is also from the Lord of the worlds. In it are the names of the people of Hell, the names of their fathers, and the names of their tribes, and then their mention is summarized till the end. Now, nothing can be increased or decreased in it." The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) said: "O Messenger of Allah! If the matter has already been decided, then what is the purpose of action?" He (peace be upon him) said: "Keep following the right path and remain moderate. Surely, the end of a person of Paradise will be upon the deeds of the people of Paradise, whatever he may have done before, and the end of a person of Hell will be upon the deeds of the people of Hell, whatever he may have done before." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) threw down those two books and said: "Your Lord has finished with His servants—a group will go to Paradise and a group to Hell."

Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him), the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "When a man points a weapon or something similar at his brother, both of them are on the edge of Hellfire. If he kills him, both fall into Hell."

Sayyiduna Abu Sa‘id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:“When the believers will be freed from the Fire of Hell and will be in safety and peace on the Day of Resurrection, they will argue intensely with their Lord about their brothers who have entered Hell, just as one of you argues with his friend for his right. They will say: O our Lord! Our brothers who used to pray with us, fast, and perform Hajj with us, but You have made them enter the Fire. Allah, the Exalted, will say: Go and bring out those whom you recognize. They will go and recognize them by their faces, for the Fire will not have affected their faces; some will have been burnt by the Fire up to half their shins, and some up to their knees. (In any case) they will bring them out and say: O our Lord! We have brought out those believers whom You commanded us to bring out. Then Allah, the Exalted, will say: Bring out from the Fire anyone who has faith in his heart equal to a dinar... then bring out anyone who has faith in his heart equal to half a dinar. Until Allah, the Exalted, will say: Bring out from the Fire anyone who has even the smallest particle of faith in his heart.”Sayyiduna Abu Sa‘id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Whoever does not affirm this hadith, let him recite this verse: «إِنَّ اللَّـهَ لَا يَظْلِمُ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ وَإِنْ تَكُ حَسَنَةً يُضَاعِفْهَا وَيُؤْتِ مِنْ لَدُنْهُ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًا» (4:40 An-Nisa)“Indeed, Allah does not do injustice, [even] as much as an atom’s weight; and if there is a good deed, He multiplies it and gives from Himself a great reward.”(The remaining part of the blessed hadith is as follows:) They will say: O our Lord! We have brought out the believers from Hell according to Your command; now only those remain in it in whom there is no good at all. Allah, the Exalted, will say: The angels have interceded, the prophets have interceded, and the believers have interceded; now only the Most Merciful of the merciful remains. Then Allah, the Exalted, will take out from the Fire a handful or two of people who have done no good deeds and have become coal. They will be brought to «ماء الحياة» (the Water of Life), and this water will be poured over them; their bodies will grow like seeds growing in the flow of a flood, and they will be like pearls. On their necks will be a seal inscribed with «عتقاء الله» (freed by Allah, the Exalted). It will be said to them: Enter Paradise; whatever you desire or whatever you see will be given to you, and some blessings will be even greater than that. They will say: O our Lord! What are those blessings? Allah, the Exalted, will say: I am pleased with you and will never be displeased with you.”

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa‘id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:“Those dwellers of Hell for whom Allah does not intend to remove from Hell, they will neither die nor live. But those dwellers of Hell whom Allah intends to remove from there, He will cause them to die there, until they become (burnt and) like charcoal. Then permission will be granted for intercession on their behalf, and they will be taken out from there in groups and thrown into the rivers of Paradise. They will grow as a seed grows in the flow of a flood.”That is, they will come into their existence very quickly.

Abu Hassan says that I told Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that two of my sons have passed away. Can you narrate any hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that would give us patience and comfort regarding our deceased? He said: Yes, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“The (believers’) young children will be the little creatures of Paradise (i.e., they will come and go in Paradise without restriction). Such a child will meet his father or his parents, take hold of his hand, just as I have taken hold of the edge of your garment, and he will not let go until Allah, the Exalted, admits him and his father both into Paradise.”
