Saeed bin Abi Al-Hasan says that once a man came to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) and said: O Abu Al-Abbas! I do the work of making pictures, my livelihood is from the craftsmanship of my hands. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: I will tell you what I heard from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Whoever makes pictures, Allah will punish him on the Day of Resurrection until he breathes life into those pictures, but he will never be able to do so." Hearing this, the man became very worried and the color of his face turned pale. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said to him: Hey! If you cannot manage without it, then make pictures of trees and things that do not have a soul.
