Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to throw pebbles at the Jamrah on the tenth of Dhul-Hijjah at the time of forenoon. Janab Mu’ammar narrates that it was only at one Jamrah. In the narration of both narrators, it is mentioned that on the remaining days, he used to throw pebbles after the sun had declined.

Hazrat A’mash says that I heard Hajjaj saying,“Do not say it like this, ‘Surah al-Baqarah,’ rather say it like this: ‘The Surah in which the cow is mentioned.’”I related this to Hazrat Ibrahim, so he said that Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Yazid narrated to me that he was with Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) when he threw pebbles at Jamrah Aqabah. He came to the middle of the valley, faced the Jamrah, and threw seven pebbles at it, and with each pebble he recited «‏‏‏‏اللهُ أَكْبَرُ» ‏‏‏‏. I said to him,“Some people climb this mountain.”He replied,“By Him besides whom there is no deity worthy of worship, I saw the Prophet Mustafa (peace and blessings be upon him), upon whom Surah al-Baqarah was revealed, throwing pebbles from this very place.”This is the narration of Durqi.

It is narrated from Ibrahim that Abdur Rahman bin Yazid states that he performed Hajj with Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), and he (Abdullah) threw seven pebbles at the Jamrah. While throwing the pebbles, he kept the Sacred House (Baytullah) on his left side and Mina on his right side. And he said: "This is the place from where that personality threw the pebbles upon whom Surah Al-Baqarah was revealed." In the narration of Zafarani, these words are not present that he performed (Hajj) with Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), and these words are mentioned that Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) performed the Rami.

Hazrat Salim bin Abdullah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to send the weak members of his household (from Muzdalifah to Mina) ahead of time. Then some of them would reach Mina at the time of Fajr prayer, while others would arrive after that. When they reached Mina, they would perform the stoning of Jamrah Aqabah. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to say that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had granted permission to these people. Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I have mentioned the chains of narration of Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas’s (may Allah be pleased with them both) narration in Kitab al-Kabir, that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“O my sons, do not throw pebbles at the Jamrah until the sun has risen.”I do not know of the chain of narration of any of these reports that any of them are established, but if even one chain is proven authentic, its meaning would be that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) only forbade those individuals from stoning before sunrise whom he had sent from Muzdalifah at night. He did not forbid all listeners. Because the hadith of Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) is evidence that he granted permission to women and the weak to perform the stoning before sunrise. In this way, the hadith of Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) does not contradict the hadith of Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), provided that the hadith of Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) is established in terms of its chain. In my view, it is permissible for weak women to perform the stoning at night; the evidence for this is the hadith which I will mention in the next chapter, insha’Allah.

Sayyida Asma (may Allah be pleased with her)'s freed slave Abdullah narrates that Sayyida Asma (may Allah be pleased with her) was staying in the house at Muzdalifah on the night of Muzdalifah. Then she stood up and started praying and said, "Son, get up and see whether the moon has set or not?" I said, "No." She then started praying again, then called me and said, "Son, see whether the moon has set?" I said, "Yes." So she said, "Then let's depart." Thus, we set out from Muzdalifah and (upon reaching Mina) stoned the Jamrah Aqabah. Then she performed the Fajr prayer in her tent. Abdullah says, "I said to her, 'Mother, we have stoned (the Jamrah) at night.' She said, 'We (weak women) used to stone (the Jamrah) in the same way in the company of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him).' This is the narration of Bundar. Ibn Ma'mar says that Sayyida Asma (may Allah be pleased with her)'s freed slave Abdullah told me that Sayyida Asma bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with her) said, 'Son, has the moon set?' I said, 'Yes.' So she said, 'Then let's go.' Thus, we set out. We kept walking with her until she completed the stoning of Jamrah Aqabah. Then she returned and performed the Fajr prayer at her place of stay. So I said, 'Mother, we have stoned (the Jamrah) in the darkness.' She said, 'Not at all, son. The Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him) gave permission to veiled women to stone (the Jamrah) at this time.' Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says that this hadith is evidence that the Prophet (peace be upon him) gave permission to only women to stone (the Jamrah) before sunrise, not to men. Imam Ata bin Abi Rabah has also narrated from Abdullah, who is the freed slave of Sayyida Asma (may Allah be pleased with her). Therefore, ignorance about him is completely removed.
