Hazrat Abu Fazarah narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw Hazrat Zaid bin Harithah in the state of a slave with long hair, while his people had made him stand in Batha to sell him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Hazrat Khadijah and said: I have seen a slave in Batha whom people have made to stand for sale. If I had his price, I would buy him. Hazrat Khadijah asked: What is his price? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Seven hundred. Hazrat Khadijah said: Take seven hundred and go buy him. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) bought him and brought him to Hazrat Khadijah and said: The matter is that if he were mine, I would set him free. Hazrat Khadijah said: This slave is yours. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set him free.

Hazrat Salman narrates that I was from the descendants of the horsemen of Persia. And I was in a school and there were two boys with me. When these two boys returned from their teacher, they went to a priest and entered upon him. So I also entered upon the priest with them. The priest said: Did I not forbid you both (boys) from bringing anyone to me? Hazrat Salman says: I started going to that priest. Until I became more beloved to him than those two boys. Hazrat Salman says: The priest said to me: When your family asks you who kept you back, say: My teacher did. And when your teacher asks you, who kept you back, say: My family did.
2. Then that priest intended to move from there. So I said to the priest: I will also migrate with you. So I migrated with him and we settled in a town. A woman used to come to him there. Then, when the time of the priest’s death approached, the priest said to me: O Salman! Dig a pit near my head. I dug a pit near him and found a pot of dirhams. The priest said to me: Pour this pot over my chest. I poured the pot over his chest. Then the priest said: Woe to my hoarding. Then the priest died. I intended to take the dirhams. Then I remembered his words, so I left the dirhams. Then I informed the priests and worshippers of his death, so they came to him. I said to those present: This deceased has left some wealth. Hazrat Salman says: Some young men from the town stood up and said: This is our father’s wealth. So they took the wealth.
3. Hazrat Salman says: I said to the worshippers: Tell me of a knowledgeable man so that I may follow him. They replied: We do not know anyone on the face of the earth more knowledgeable than the man of Hims. So I went to him and met him and told him the whole story. Hazrat Salman says: He said: Did only the search for knowledge bring you here? I replied: Only the search for knowledge brought me here. He said: Today, I do not know anyone on the face of the earth more knowledgeable than a man who comes to Bayt al-Maqdis every year. If you set out now, you will find his donkey present. Hazrat Salman says: I set out and suddenly found his donkey at the gate of Bayt al-Maqdis. So I sat with him and the man left. I did not see that man for a whole year. Then the man came, so I said to him: O servant of Allah! What did you do with me? He asked: And (did) you remain here? I replied: Yes! He said: By Allah! I do not know anyone more knowledgeable than the man who has appeared in the land of Tayma. If you set out now, you will find him, and he will have three signs. That person will eat gifts, and will not eat charity, and on his right shoulder near the soft bone will be the seal of Prophethood, which will resemble a pigeon’s egg and its color will be like the skin.
4. Hazrat Salman says: So I set out, while the ups and downs of the land affected me. Until I passed by some villagers, and they made me a slave, then they sold me. Until a woman in Madinah bought me. I heard people mentioning the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). Life was very hard. I said to that woman: Gift me for a day. She said: Fine. I went and gathered wood and sold it and prepared food. Then I took that food to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). The food was a little. I placed the food before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: What is this? I said: It is charity. He said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to his companions: Eat. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not eat himself. He says: I said: This is one of the signs of that person.

Hazrat Abu Ubaidah bin Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a man says: I said, I will ask about the news of ‘Adi bin Hatim, and I was in a village of Kufa so that I could hear this matter directly from him. So I presented myself before him and said: Do you recognize me? He replied: Yes! You are so-and-so, son of so-and-so, and he mentioned my name. I said: Please narrate the matter to me. He said: When the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was sent, I disliked this matter as much as I had ever disliked anything. So I left, until I reached the farthest part of the Arabs, which borders Rome, and settled there. Then I disliked that place even more than the first. So I said: I will certainly go to this man. If he is a liar, he will not harm me. And if he is truthful, then it will become clear to me.
2. So I arrived in Madinah. People looked at me with attention and began to say: ‘Adi bin Hatim has come. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O ‘Adi! Accept Islam, you will find safety. I said: I also follow a religion. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I know your religion better than you. He says: I said: Do you know my religion better than I do? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Yes! I know your religion better than you. I (again) said: Do you know my religion better than I do? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Yes! (Then) the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Are you not a Rakusi (a religion between Christianity and Sabeanism)? I said: Why not. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Are you not the chief of your people? I said: Why not. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do you not take a quarter (of the people's wealth)? I said: Why not! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: This is not lawful for you in your religion. ‘Adi says: I felt inferior within myself.
3. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O ‘Adi bin Hatim! Accept Islam, you will find safety. I think, or I suppose, that what is preventing you from accepting Islam is that you see the poor around me, and you find people united against us. Have you been to Hira? I said: No! But I know its location. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The time is near when a woman traveler will depart from Hira without any companion and will perform Tawaf of the House of Allah. And surely, the treasures of Kisra bin Hurmuz will be opened for you. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) repeated this three times. The time is near when a man will look for someone to accept his zakat.
4. So indeed, I (‘Adi) saw the woman traveler who departed from Hira without a companion and came to perform Tawaf of the House of Allah. And indeed, I was among the horsemen who attacked Mada’in. And surely, the time of your statement will also come, because this is the statement of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) which he said to me.

Narrated by Hazrat Jarir bin Abdullah: He says: When I approached near Madinah, I made my camel sit down, then I took off my ordinary clothes and put on my fine attire, and I entered while the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering a sermon. I greeted the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The people began to stare at me. He says: I asked my companion, "O servant of Allah! Has the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned anything about me?" He said: "Yes! He (peace and blessings be upon him) has spoken very well of you." He said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering a sermon when he said: "Indeed, soon from this direction, or he said: from this door, the best person among the people of Yemen will enter. Beware! There will be royal features on his face." Hazrat Jarir says: So I praised Allah for the trial with which Allah had tested me.

Hazrat Asma narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to migrate to Madinah, I prepared a provision bag for him in the house of Abu Bakr. She narrates that we could not find anything to tie the provision bag and the water skin of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I said to Abu Bakr: By Allah! I do not find anything (like a rope, etc.) to tie them except my waistband. She says: Sayyiduna Siddiq Akbar said: Tear it into two parts. Tie the water skin with one part and the provision bag with the other. Because of this, Hazrat Asma became known as "Dhat an-Nitaqain" (the possessor of two waistbands).

Hazrat Umar bin Ishaq narrates that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and Hazrat Abu Bakr set out towards Madinah, Suraqah bin Malik also followed them. When he reached them, he said: "These are the two persons whom the Quraysh are seeking. If only I could return these wanted persons to the Quraysh." The narrator says: He made his horse run towards these two gentlemen, but the horse sank into the ground. Suraqah said: "Both of you pray to Allah that He brings the horse out. I will not come near you." The narrator says: So the horse came out. Then Suraqah repeated his previous action, and this happened two or three times. The narrator says: Then Suraqah stopped. Then he said: "Come, take this provision and mount." They replied: "We do not intend to, and we do not need it."

It is narrated from Hazrat Bara bin Azib that Hazrat Abu Bakr bought some travel goods from Hazrat Azib for thirteen dirhams. Hazrat Abu Bakr said to Hazrat Azib, "Order Bara to carry it to my saddle." Hazrat Azib said to Hazrat Siddiq Akbar, "No! Not until you tell us what you and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did when you both set out and the polytheists were searching for you."
2. Hazrat Abu Bakr said: "When we departed from Mecca, we traveled for a night and a day without sleep until it was noon and the time of decline (of the sun) had come. I looked around to see if I could find any shade where we could take shelter, and suddenly I saw a rock. So we reached it. There was still some shade left. I looked at the remaining shade and prepared the place, then I spread leather for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in that shade. Then I said, 'O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Please lie down.' So he lay down. Then I began to look around to see if I could spot any pursuer, and suddenly I saw a shepherd driving his sheep towards the same rock. His purpose for the rock was the same as mine. I asked him, 'O boy! Whose are you?' He replied, 'A man from Quraysh.' Abu Bakr says, 'When the slave mentioned the man's name, I recognized him.'
3. I asked, 'Do your sheep have milk?' He replied, 'Yes!' I said, 'Will you milk some for me?' He said, 'Yes!' Hazrat Abu Bakr says: I ordered him, so he caught a goat from his flock. Then I told him to clean the dust from the goat's udders. Then I told him to clean his hands. He said, 'Like this?' Then he struck one hand with the other, then he milked a little. I had a water vessel for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) with a cloth tied over its mouth. I poured the milk into it until it became cool from below. Then I presented it to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and I found him awake. I said, 'O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Please drink.' So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) drank until I was pleased.
4. Then I said, 'O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! It is time to depart.' Then we set out while people were searching for us. None of them found us except Suraqah bin Malik bin Ju'sham. He was riding his horse. I said, 'O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! This pursuer has reached us.' And I began to weep. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, 'What makes you weep?' I said, 'By Allah! I do not weep for my own life, but I weep for you.' Abu Bakr says: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed against Suraqah and said, 'O Allah! Deal with him as You wish on our behalf.' Abu Bakr says: Suraqah's horse sank into the ground up to its belly. Suraqah jumped off his horse and said, 'O Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! I know this is your doing. So pray to Allah to save me from this calamity. By Allah! I will surely keep this matter hidden from my pursuers. And here is my quiver, take an arrow from it. And soon you will pass by my camels and goats at such-and-such place; take from them whatever you need.' The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, 'We have no need of your camels.' Then he turned back from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed for him. Suraqah returned to his companions.
5. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) continued on, and I was with him, until we reached Medina at night. The people began to dispute about where the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would stay. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, 'Tonight I will stay with Banu Najjar, who are the maternal uncles of Abdul Muttalib...'

It is narrated from Hasan that Suraqah bin Malik al-Mudliji informed the people that the Quraysh had set a reward of forty uqiyah regarding the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and Hazrat Abu Bakr. He says: I was sitting when a man came to me and said, "Those men about whom the Quraysh have made their announcement (of reward) are near you, at such-and-such a place." He says: I went to my horse, which was grazing. I took it and hurried, then I took my spear. He says: I mounted it, and out of fear that someone else might join me regarding these two, I began to draw my spear. He says: When I saw the two of them, Hazrat Abu Bakr said, "This is a seeker who is searching for us." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned towards me and said, "O Allah! Be sufficient for us against him as You wish." Suraqah says: My horse sank into the ground, even though I was on hard ground. I fell on a stone and tumbled. So I said, "Pray to that Being who has done this to my horse, as I am seeing, that He may bring it out from here." He says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed for Suraqah, and the horse came out. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Will you gift this to me?" I said, "Yes!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Then stay here." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Keep our situation hidden from the people."
2. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took the route along the seashore. He says: At the beginning of the day, I was their pursuer, and at the end of the day, I was their protector. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me, "When we make Medina our destination, if you wish, come to us." Suraqah says: Then when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived in Medina and prevailed over the people of Badr and the people of Uhud, and the people and those around the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) accepted Islam, Suraqah says: News reached me that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to send Khalid bin Walid towards Banu Mudlij. He says: I presented myself before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "I remind you of the reward (promise)." The people said, "Wait!" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Leave him." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "What do you intend?" I said, "I have heard that you intend to send Khalid bin Walid towards my people, and I would like you to make a pact with them. If their people accept faith, they too will accept faith. And if their people do not accept faith, then their hearts will not be hardened against them." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) took the hand of Khalid bin Walid and said to him, "Go with him and do as he wishes."
3. So Khalid bin Walid went towards Banu Mudlij and took a pact from them that they would not help against the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). If the Quraysh accepted Islam, they too would accept Islam with them. (Upon this) Allah the Exalted revealed these verses: { وَدُّوا لَوْ تَکْفُرُونَ کَمَا کَفَرُوا … Hasan says: Those about whom "hasrat sudurihim" was said are Banu Mudlij. Whoever reaches Banu Mudlij will also be included in their pact.
