Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: During the blessed time of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), women were instructed regarding prayer that they should not raise their heads (from prostration) until the men had sat in their places. The reason for this was that the men’s garments were tight. The narrator named Bishr says: I have also heard this narration from Abu Hazim.

Abdullah bin Suwaid Ansari narrates from his paternal aunt, Sayyida Umm Humayd, who was the wife of Sayyiduna Abu Humayd Sa’idi (may Allah be pleased with him). She states: She presented herself before the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). She said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! I like to perform prayer behind you. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I know that you like to perform prayer behind me, however, your prayer in the innermost part of your house is better than your prayer in your room (the room closer to the outside), and your prayer in your sitting room is better than your prayer in your neighborhood mosque, and your prayer in your neighborhood mosque is better than your prayer in my mosque. The narrator says: Following this guidance, a place was designated for her in the farthest and darkest corner of her house for prayer, and she continued to pray there for the rest of her life.

Abdul Hameed bin Mahmood reports: I performed prayer between the pillars at the side of Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, so he said: In the blessed time of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, we used to avoid this.

Muawiyah bin Qurrah narrates from his father: "We were forbidden from praying between the pillars; we were made to move away from them."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: I asked Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him): When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) entered the Ka'bah, where did he pray? He replied: Between the two front pillars. The narrator says: I did not remember to ask him how many rak'ahs the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed. (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The action is that it is prohibited to perform congregational prayer between the pillars, but as for an individual praying between the pillars, that is permissible.

Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever leads the people in prayer, performs the prayer on time, and completes the prayer, then he will receive the reward and the people will also receive the reward. But if he makes any deficiency in it, then its burden will be upon that person. Its burden will not be upon the people."

Abdullah bin Abu Qatadah narrates from his father that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "When the Iqamah for prayer is pronounced, do not stand up until you see me."

Abdullah bin Abu Qatadah narrates from his father that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "When the Iqamah for prayer is called, do not stand up until you see me coming towards you."

Urwah bin Mughirah narrates: He heard his father (Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu’bah, may Allah be pleased with him) saying that on the occasion of the Battle of Tabuk, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) moved aside from the road before Fajr. I also moved aside with him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made his mount sit down and went to relieve himself. Then he came to me. I poured water from a vessel over both his hands. He washed both his hands, then he washed his face. Then he tried to pull out his forearms, but the sleeve of the cloak was tight, so he inserted both his hands inside and brought them out from under the cloak, then he washed them up to the elbows. He wiped his head, then he wiped over his socks (i.e., performed masah). Then he mounted (his ride). After traveling a short distance, we reached the people who were performing prayer. They had put forward Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him), and he was leading them in prayer. At that time, the time for prayer had come. We found Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him) in such a state that he had already led them in one rak’ah of the Fajr prayer. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood behind Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) along with the Muslims. He performed the second rak’ah of the Fajr prayer. When Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him) finished with salam, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up to complete his prayer. The Muslims became anxious at this, and they began to say“Subhan Allah”repeatedly, because they had tried to go ahead of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) finished with salam, he said to them:“You have done well.”(The narrator is in doubt, perhaps these are the words:)“You have done right.”

Sayyiduna Mughira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went to relieve himself, then he returned, so I poured water on him from a vessel. He washed his face, then he began to bring out his forearms, but the sleeve of the cloak was tight. It was a Roman cloak made of wool. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) brought out his blessed hand from the opening that was near his side. He washed both his arms up to the elbows, wiped his head, and wiped over his leather socks. Then he came, and I was with him. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) found the people in the state of prayer, so he also stood in the row. Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) was leading them in prayer. We found them in such a state that they had already performed one rak‘ah. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) performed the second rak‘ah behind Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him), and when he finished with salam, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood up and completed his prayer. The people became anxious at this, and when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) completed his prayer, he said: "You did the right thing. You did well. When your imam does not come and the time for prayer arrives, then appoint someone to lead you in prayer." (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) Ja‘far bin Burqan has narrated this chain in a brief form. He did not mention Abbas bin Ziyad in its chain. The reason is that Zuhri heard this narration from Abbas bin Ziyad (may Allah be pleased with him) from ‘Urwah bin Mughira, and he also heard this narration from Hamza bin Mughira from his father. This has been explained in detail by Imam Abu Hatim.
