Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a marriage proposal to Sayyidah Umm Hani bint Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with her). She replied: "I am old in age and I have children." The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Among the women who ride camels (i.e., Arab women), the women of Quraysh are the best. They are the most compassionate to their children in their childhood and take the best care of their husband's household." (Perhaps Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah [may Allah be pleased with him] said:) "Sayyidah Maryam bint Imran (may Allah be pleased with her) never rode a camel."

Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "I never intended to do any of the evil deeds that the people of the Age of Ignorance used to do, except on two occasions, and both times Allah Almighty saved me. (Then the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, explained:) Once, I was grazing my family's goats in the upper part of Makkah with a young man from the Quraysh. I said to my companion: Today, you take care of my goats. Tonight, I want to spend the night in Makkah as young men do. He said: Fine. I left from there, and when I reached a house at the far end of Makkah, I heard the sounds of singing, drum-beating, and musical instruments. I asked: What is this? The people replied: So-and-so has married so-and-so woman. They informed me about a Qurayshi man marrying a Qurayshi woman. I began to listen to the singing and the sounds. Meanwhile, sleep overtook me, and I fell asleep. The heat of the sun woke me up, and I returned to my companion. He asked: What did you do? I told him about it. The same thing happened the next night. I left from there. I heard similar sounds. I was told the same thing as before. I heard the same kind of sounds as before, until sleep overtook me again, and the heat of the sun woke me up. I returned to my companion. He asked: What did you do? I said: I did nothing. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: By Allah! After that, I never intended to do any evil deed that the people of the Age of Ignorance used to do, until Allah Almighty honored me with His Prophethood.

Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). He said: Count those people who have accepted Islam. The narrator says: I submitted, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! Do you fear (for us), when our number is between six hundred and seven hundred?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "You do not know, it may be that you will be put to trial." The narrator says: So we were put to trial.
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) stayed in Makkah for seven years. He used to go to the people’s dwellings at ‘Ukaz, Majannah, and during Hajj at Mina. He would say,“Who will give me refuge and who will help me so that I may convey the message of my Lord?”Until a man, who was from Yemen or perhaps from Egypt, came out and said to his people:“Beware of this young man from Quraysh, lest he put you to trial.”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would walk among the dwellings of the people, and they would point at him with their fingers, until Allah sent us from Yathrib. We gave him refuge and affirmed him. One of us would go out, believe in him, and he (the Prophet) would teach him the recitation of the Qur’an. That person would return to his family, and because of his acceptance of Islam, his family would also accept Islam, until there were some Muslims in every neighborhood of the Ansar. They openly declared Islam, then we gathered together. We said:“How long will we let the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remain in such a state? Will he keep wandering among the mountains of Makkah, distressed?”So seventy of us set out to go to him. We came to him during Hajj. We agreed with him that we would come to him at ‘Aqabah (the mountain pass) and speak with him. People gathered there one by one or two by two, until when our number was complete, we said:“O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! On what shall we pledge allegiance to you?”He said:“Pledge allegiance to me on obedience and compliance in both active and inactive states, on spending in both hardship and ease, on enjoining good and forbidding evil, and that a person will not fear the blame of any blamer for the sake of Allah, and pledge that you will help me, and when I come to you, you will support me just as you protect your wives and children. In return, you will have Paradise.”We came before you and pledged allegiance to you.

Sayyiduna As‘ad bin Zurarah, who was the youngest among them, took the blessed hand of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said:“O people of Yathrib, come forward. We did not strike the livers of camels (i.e., undertake this journey) except that we have come to know that he is the Messenger of Allah. Now, the departure of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) (towards Madinah) will cause conflict with all the Arabs. As a result, your best men may be killed. Swords may cut you. Either you endure this situation with patience, and your reward will be with Allah, or you show cowardice and become fearful for yourselves (if you intend to do so), then state this, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) will accept your excuse.”They said:“Step aside! By Allah, we will never abandon this pledge.”Then we stood before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). We pledged allegiance to him. He took the pledge from us and stipulated that if we did so, he would grant us Paradise.

Lady Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Since I gained consciousness, I saw my parents as Muslims. Every day, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) used to visit us morning and evening. When the Muslims began to be tested (with persecution), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) set out to migrate to the land of Abyssinia. He met Ibn Daghina, the chief of the Qarah tribe. He asked: O Abu Bakr, where are you going? He replied: My people have forced me to leave. Now I will travel through the land and worship my Lord. Ibn Daghina said to him: O Abu Bakr, a person like you cannot leave (his area), nor should he be made to leave. You help the needy, maintain the ties of kinship, are hospitable to guests, bear the burdens of others, assist in works of truth. I grant you protection. Then Ibn Daghina rode from there, and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) returned with him. He went to the disbelievers of Quraysh and said to them: A person like Abu Bakr cannot leave (his area), nor should a person like him be made to leave. He helps the needy, takes care of them, bears the burdens of others, is hospitable to guests, assists in works of truth. So the Quraysh maintained the protection given by Ibn Daghina. They granted Sayyiduna Abu Bakr safety. They said to Ibn Daghina: Tell Abu Bakr to worship his Lord in his house and pray as much as he wants there and recite as much as he wants, but he should not cause us any trouble. He should not pray or recite the Qur'an openly outside his house. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) continued to do so, then he thought it appropriate to build a mosque in his courtyard. There he used to pray and recite the Qur'an, so the women and children of the polytheists would come there and be amazed and keep looking at him. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) used to weep a lot when he recited the Qur'an, so much so that he could not control his tears. The Quraysh sent a message to Ibn Daghina to come to them. The Quraysh said: We granted Abu Bakr protection on the condition that he would worship his Lord in his house. Now he has built a mosque and prays and recites openly. We fear that he will put our young people to trial. Go to him and tell him to be content with worshipping his Lord in his house. If he does not agree and wants to do so openly, then let him return your protection, because we do not like to violate your protection, nor can we allow Abu Bakr to do this openly.

Ibn Daghina came to Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: You know that I have taken responsibility for you, so either be content with that or return my protection to me, for I do not like that the Arabs hear that I gave protection to someone and then took it back. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I am pleased with the protection of Allah and His Messenger. (The narrator says:) The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was residing in Mecca. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the Muslims: Your place of migration has been shown to me (in a dream). I was shown that it is a land with much noise, with many date-palm gardens, and on both its sides are rocky lands.

When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned this, those who had to migrate migrated to Madinah, and some of those who had migrated to the land of Abyssinia came to Madinah. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) also prepared his provisions for migration. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Abu Bakr, wait for now, I hope that I too will be granted permission. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: May my parents be sacrificed for you, do you hope so? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Yes. So Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) held himself back to accompany the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He kept feeding his two camels. He used to feed them the leaves of the acacia tree. This continued for four months.

Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: One day someone said to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) has come. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came with his face covered, and it was a time when he usually did not come to us. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: May my parents be sacrificed for you, if you have come at this time, it must be for an important matter. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came and sought permission to enter, and permission was granted. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) entered and said: O Abu Bakr, send out those who are with you. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Only my family is here. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: That is fine. Then he said: I have been granted permission. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: May my father be sacrificed for you, O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! May I accompany you? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Yes. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! May my father be sacrificed for you, take one of these two camels. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Fine, but it will be for a price. Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: We prepared the best provisions for both of them. We prepared a leather food bag for both of them. Lady Asma cut her waistband and tied the mouth of the bag with it. That is why she was called "Dhat an-Nitaqayn" (the possessor of two belts). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) reached a cave on a mountain, which was called Thawr. He stayed there for three days.
