It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When Jibreel (peace be upon him) pressed his heel to bring forth the water of Zamzam, the mother of Isma'il (peace be upon him) began to gather it by making a basin in the wide valley." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May Allah have mercy on Umm Isma'il, Hajar. If she had left the water (as it was), it would have become a flowing spring."

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A man from the Children of Israel asked another for a loan of one thousand dinars. The lender said: 'Bring witnesses so that I may have them bear witness over you.' The borrower said: 'Allah is sufficient as a witness.' The lender said: 'Then bring a guarantor.' The borrower said: 'Allah is sufficient as a guarantor.' The lender said: 'You have spoken the truth.' So he lent him one thousand dinars for a specified period.

The man then set out towards the sea and fulfilled his need. When the appointed time arrived, he searched for a means of transport but could not find one. So he took a piece of wood, hollowed it out, placed one thousand dinars inside it, and wrote a letter to its owner. He then sealed the hole (with iron or something similar), took the piece of wood to the sea, and said: 'O Allah! You know that I borrowed one thousand dinars from so-and-so. When he asked me for a witness and a guarantor, I said that Allah is sufficient as a guarantor, and he was pleased with Your guarantee. Now I have searched for a means of transport to deliver his right to him, but I have not found one. So I entrust this wealth to You.' Then he threw the piece of wood into the sea.

Meanwhile, the lender went out hoping that perhaps (someone) riding a mount would bring his money to repay his loan. Suddenly, he saw a piece of wood at the seashore, which contained his money. He picked up the wood to use as firewood, and when he broke it open, he found the money and the letter. He took them.

Later, the borrower himself arrived (with one thousand dinars) and said: 'I could not find any means of transport, so I have come now to repay the loan.' The lender said: 'Allah has already delivered to me what you sent in the wood.' So the borrower returned successfully."

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Indeed, the sun was never held back for any human being except for Yusha‘ bin Nun. This was during the days when he was heading towards Bayt al-Maqdis. In another narration: One of the Prophets from among the Prophets waged jihad. He said to his people: No man should come with me who has become the owner of a woman’s private part (i.e., he has married) and wishes to consummate the marriage but has not yet done so; nor should any man (join my army) who has started building a house but has not yet put a roof on it; nor should any man who has bought sheep or pregnant animals and is waiting for them to give birth come with us. (After making this announcement) he set out for the battle. When they reached a village, the time for ‘Asr prayer had come or was near. (And in another narration, it is mentioned that the confrontation with the enemy happened before sunset.) At that time, the Prophet said to the sun: You are commanded (by Allah) and I am also commanded (by Him). O Allah! Hold back the sun for me for a while. So it was held back. (They remained engaged in jihad until Allah granted them victory and they obtained abundant spoils of war.) The people of the army collected the spoils of war (according to the law of that time), and a fire came to consume it, but it refused to do so. Their principle was that when they obtained spoils of war, Allah would send a fire that would consume it. The Prophet (explaining why the fire did not consume it) said: Someone among you has committed treachery, so let one man from each tribe pledge allegiance to me. They pledged allegiance. During the pledge, one man’s hand stuck to his hand. At that time, he said: There is treachery among you. Now every man from your tribe will pledge allegiance to me (so that the culprit can be identified). They began pledging allegiance, and eventually, the hands of two or three men stuck. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There is treachery among you; you have committed treachery. They said: Yes, we have taken a golden idol shaped like a cow’s face. Then they brought the object shaped like a cow’s face and placed it with the spoils of war in the earth. Then the fire came and consumed the spoils of war. For no one before us (the Ummah of Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him) was the spoils of war made lawful. The reason is that when Allah saw that we were weak and helpless, He made the spoils of war lawful for us.”And in another narration, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said at that time:“Allah, out of mercy for us and due to our weakness, has granted us permission to consume the spoils of war.”

Sayyiduna Abu Sa‘id (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Shall I not narrate to you the hadith which I heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)? My ears heard that hadith and my heart remembered it. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:“A man killed ninety-nine people, then he thought of repenting. He asked the people about the greatest scholar on the face of the earth. He was directed to a monk (priest). He went to him and asked that he had killed ninety-nine people, is there any repentance for such a person? He replied: After killing ninety-nine people? (There is no repentance for such a person.) So he drew his sword and killed him, thus completing one hundred. Then he thought of repenting, and he asked the people about the greatest scholar on earth. He was directed to a scholar. He went to him and said: I have killed one hundred people, is there any (possibility of) repentance for me? He said: Who can come between you and your repentance? But do this: leave this wicked town and go to such-and-such good town, for its people worship Allah, so worship Allah with them, and do not return to your own area, for it is an evil land. So he set out towards the good town, but death overtook him on the way. He dragged himself on his chest, moving away from the first land (a little) towards the other side. (To take his soul) the angels of mercy and the angels of punishment both came, and a dispute arose between them. Iblis said: I am more deserving of him, he never disobeyed me. But the angels of mercy said: He came repenting and with full attention of his heart towards Allah, and the angels of punishment said: He never did any good deed. Allah sent an angel in the form of a man. They presented their dispute before him. He said: See which town he is closer to, and count him among its people. Meanwhile, Allah commanded the land (from which he was coming) to move away, and commanded the land of the righteous (to which he was going) to come closer. When they measured, they found him to be a handspan closer to the land he was heading towards. So the angels of mercy took him and he was forgiven.”Hasan the narrator says: When he realized death was near, he shrank (towards the good town), and in another narration, he dragged himself on his chest (towards the good town). In any case, Allah brought him closer to the righteous town and farther from the wicked town, so those angels included him among the people of the good town.”

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Pharaoh had four nails driven into his wife's two hands and two feet. When they (the people of Pharaoh) would leave her, the angels would shade her. That wife said: "O my Lord! Build for me a house with You in Paradise, and save me from Pharaoh and his deeds, and save me from the wrongdoing people." So Allah, the Exalted, removed the veil from her house in Paradise (and showed her house).

Salim bin Abdullah bin Umar narrates from his father, Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq, Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with them both), and other companions were sitting in a gathering after the passing of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). They began to discuss the gravest of sins. However, they did not have any definitive knowledge on which to conclude the matter. So they sent me (Abdullah) to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) to ask him about it. He told me that the gravest sin is drinking alcohol. I returned to them and informed them of this, but they did not accept it, and all of them stood up and went to the house of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him). This time, he explained in detail, saying: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A king from the Children of Israel seized a man and gave him the choice to either drink alcohol, kill a child, commit adultery, or eat the flesh of swine, forcing him to commit one of these crimes, otherwise he would be killed. So he drank the alcohol. But when he drank the alcohol, he could not refrain from committing all the crimes they wanted from him." At that time, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) told us: "Whoever drinks alcohol, his prayer will not be accepted for forty days. Whoever dies in such a state that there is some alcohol in his bladder, Paradise will be forbidden for him. And if he dies within forty days (after drinking alcohol), he will die the death of ignorance (Jahiliyyah)."

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:“The Prophet of Allah, Ayyub (peace be upon him), remained ill for eighteen years. All his relatives, both near and far, turned away from him, except for his two brothers who used to visit him morning and evening. One day, one of them said to the other: ‘Do you know, by Allah! (I think) Ayyub must have committed a sin that no one among the worlds has committed?’ His companion asked: ‘What is that?’ He replied: ‘(Look) it has been eighteen years, and Allah has not shown mercy to him to remove his illness.’ When they came to Ayyub in the evening, one of them, out of impatience, mentioned this. Ayyub (peace be upon him), upon hearing their accusation, said: ‘Of what you are saying, I know nothing of the sort. However, Allah knows that two men would pass by me, arguing with each other, and they would make me a witness by Allah’s name. I would return home and offer expiation on their behalf, fearing that perhaps they had made me a witness by Allah’s name unjustly.’ Ayyub (peace be upon him) used to go out to relieve himself, and when he finished, his wife would take him by the hand and support him until he reached his place. One day, he was delayed (and his wife waited for him), and Allah revealed to him: ‘Strike your foot; here is cool water to wash and to drink.’ (Surah Sad: 42) Meanwhile, his wife was thinking that he was taking long. When he returned, Allah had removed all his illnesses and he looked very handsome. When his wife saw him, (she did not recognize him and) asked: ‘May Allah bless you, have you seen the Prophet of Allah who is ill? By Allah, when he was healthy, he resembled you the most.’ He said: ‘I am (that same Ayyub), (now Allah has granted me healing).’ Ayyub (peace be upon him) had two threshing floors, one for wheat and one for barley. Allah sent two clouds; one cloud came over the wheat threshing floor and began to rain gold, and the other came over the barley threshing floor and began to rain silver. (Thus Allah granted him both health and abundant wealth).”
