Mishkat al-Masabih
(النِّدَاءُ بِاسْمِ الْأَبِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ)
(Calling by the father’s name on the Day of Judgment)
Hadith Number: 4768
4768 - وعن ابي الدرداء - رضي الله عنه - قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم:"تدعون يوم القيامة باسمائكم واسماء آبائكم، فاحسنوا اسماءكم"رواه احمد، وابو داود.
Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "On the Day of Resurrection, you will be called by your names and the names of your fathers, so keep good names." Its chain is weak. Narrated by Ahmad and Abu Dawood.

٭ قال أبو حاتم الرازي: ’’عبد الله بن أبي زکريا لم يسمع أبا الدرداء‘‘ .»
٭ قال أبو حاتم الرازي: ’’عبد الله بن أبي زکريا لم يسمع أبا الدرداء‘‘ .»
قال الشيخ زبير على زئي:إسناده ضعيف
(مَنْعُ كُنْيَةِ أَبِي الْقَاسِمِ فِي حَيَاةِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ)
(Prohibition of the kunya Abu al-Qasim during the Prophet’s lifetime, peace be upon him)
Hadith Number: 4769
4769 - وعن ابي هريرة - رضي الله عنه - ان النبي - صلى الله عليه وسلم - نهى ان يجمع احد بين اسمه وكنيته ، ويسمى محمد ابا القاسم. رواه الترمذي.
It is narrated from Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade that anyone should combine his name and his kunyah in such a way as to name himself Muhammad Abu al-Qasim. Sahih, narrated by al-Tirmidhi.

قال الشيخ زبير على زئي:صحيح
(إِحْدَى الْأَمْرَيْنِ الِاسْمُ أَوِ الْكُنْيَةُ)
(One of the two: the name or the kunya)
Hadith Number: 4770
4770 - وعن جابر - رضي الله عنه - ان النبي - صلى الله عليه وسلم - قال:"إذا سميتم باسمي فلا تكتنوا بكنيتي". رواه الترمذي، وابن ماجه. وقال الترمذي: هذا حديث غريب. وفي رواية ابي داود، قال:"ومن تسمى باسمي لا يكتن بكنيتي، ومن تكنى بكنيتي فلا يتسم باسمي".
It is narrated from Jabir, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "When you name (someone) with my name, then do not use my kunyah (patronymic) as a kunyah." And Imam Tirmidhi said: This hadith is gharib, and in the narration of Abu Dawood, it is stated: "Whoever names (someone) with my name should not use my kunyah, and whoever uses my kunyah should not name (someone) with my name." Sahih, narrated by Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah, and Abu Dawood.

قال الشيخ زبير على زئي:صحيح
(جَوَازُ الْجَمْعِ بَيْنَ الِاسْمِ وَالْكُنْيَةِ)
(Permissibility of combining the name and the kunya)
Hadith Number: 4771
4771 - عن عائشة - رضي الله عنها - ان امراة قالت: يا رسول الله! إني ولدت غلاما فسميته محمدا، وكنيته ابا القاسم ، فذكر لي انك تكره ذلك. فقال:"ما الذي احل اسمي وحرم كنيتي؟ او ما الذي حرم كنيتي واحل اسمي؟"رواه ابو داود. وقال محيي السنة: غريب.
It is narrated from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that a woman said: O Messenger of Allah! A child has been born to me and I have named him Muhammad and given him the kunyah Abu al-Qasim, but I have heard that you dislike this. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Who is it that has made my name lawful and my kunyah unlawful, or who is it that has made my kunyah unlawful and my name lawful?" Abu Dawood, and Muhyi al-Sunnah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: This hadith is gharib. Its chain is weak, narrated by Abu Dawood.

(Permission for the name and kunya after death)
Hadith Number: 4772
4772 - وعن محمد ابن الحنفية، عن ابيه - رضي الله عنه - قال: قلت: يا رسول الله ارايت إن ولد لي بعدك ولد اسميه باسمك واكنيه بكنيتك؟ قال:"نعم"رواه ابو داود.
Muhammad bin Hanafiyyah narrates from his father, who said: I asked, O Messenger of Allah! Tell me, if a child is born to me after you, may I name him after you and give him your kunyah? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes." Its chain is Hasan. Narrated by Abu Dawood.

قال الشيخ زبير على زئي:إسناده حسن
(كُنْيَةُ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَبُو حَمْزَةَ)
(The kunya of Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, is Abu Hamza)
Hadith Number: 4773
4773 - وعن انس - رضي الله عنه - قال: كناني رسول الله - صلى الله عليه وسلم - ببقلة كنت اجتنيها . رواه الترمذي وقال: هذا حديث لا نعرفه إلا من هذا الوجه. وفي"المصابيح": صححه.
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I used to pick a herb, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave me the kunyah (Abu Hamzah) because of it. This was narrated by Tirmidhi, and he said: We know this hadith only through this route, and in Misbah it is stated that he declared it authentic. Its chain is very weak. Narrated by Tirmidhi.

(رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يُغَيِّرُ الْأَسْمَاءَ السَّيِّئَةَ)
(The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, used to change bad names)
Hadith Number: 4774
4774 - وعن عائشة - رضي الله عنها - قالت: إن النبي - صلى الله عليه وسلم - كان يغير الاسم القبيح . رواه الترمذي.
Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to change bad names. Sahih, narrated by al-Tirmidhi.

قال الشيخ زبير على زئي:صحيح
(تَغْيِيرُ اسْمِ أَصْرَمَ)
(Changing the name Asram)
Hadith Number: 4775
4775 - وعن بشير بن ميمون، عن عمه اسامة بن اخدري، ان رجلا يقال له اصرم كان في النفر الذين اوتوا رسول الله - صلى الله عليه وسلم - فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم:"ما اسمك؟"قال: اصرم قال:"بل انت زرعة". رواه ابو داود.
Bashir bin Maimoon narrates from his uncle Usama bin Akhdari that a man named Asram was among those who came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, asked: "What is your name?" He replied: Asram. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "No, rather you are Zar'ah." Its chain is Hasan. Narrated by Abu Dawood.

(تَغْيِيرُ بَعْضِ الْأَسْمَاءِ الْأُخْرَى)
(Changing some other names)
Hadith Number: 4776
4776 - وقال: وغير النبي - صلى الله عليه وسلم - اسم العاص، وعزيز ، وعتلة، وشيطان، والحكم، وغراب، وحباب، وشهاب، وقال: تركت اسانيدها للاختصار.
And Abu Dawood said, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) changed the names ‘Aas, ‘Azeez, ‘Atlah, Shaytaan, Hakam, Ghuraab, Hubab, and Shihab, and he said: I have not mentioned their chains of narration for the sake of brevity. Authentic, narrated by Abu Dawood.

قال الشيخ زبير على زئي:صحيح
(زَعْمٌ اسْمٌ سَيِّئٌ)
(Za’m is a bad name)
Hadith Number: 4777
4777 - وعن ابي مسعود الانصاري رضي الله عنه قال لابي عبد الله - او قال ابو عبد الله لابي مسعود -: ما سمعت رسول الله - صلى الله عليه وسلم - يقول في (زعموا؟) قال: سمعت رسول الله - صلى الله عليه وسلم - يقول:"بئس مطية الرجل". رواه ابو داود وقال: إن ابا عبد الله حذيفة.
It is narrated from Abu Mas’ud Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him), that either he said to Abu Abdullah or Abu Abdullah said to Abu Mas’ud: What have you heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say about the word“za’amu”(they claim)? He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say:“It is bad for a man to speak in such a manner.”Abu Dawood, and he said: By Abu Abdullah is meant Hudhaifah. Sahih, narrated by Abu Dawood.
