Mishkat al-Masabih
(الْقِيَامُ تَعْظِيمًا كَانَ شَدِيدَ النَّكْرَةِ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ)
(Standing in reverence was strongly disliked by the Prophet, peace be upon him)
Hadith Number: 4698
4698 - عن انس بن مالك - رضي الله عنه - قال: لم يكن شخص احب إليهم من رسول الله - صلى الله عليه وسلم -، وكانوا إذا راوه لم يقوموا ، لما يعلمون من كراهيته لذلك. رواه الترمذي، وقال: هذا حديث حسن صحيح.
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: There was no person more beloved to the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) than the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), yet when they saw him, they would not stand up, because they knew that he (peace and blessings be upon him) disliked it. And he said: This hadith is Hasan Sahih. Sahih, narrated by al-Tirmidhi.

قال الشيخ زبير على زئي:صحيح
(مَنْ يَرْغَبُ فِي اسْتِقْبَالِ النَّاسِ مَأْوَاهُ جَهَنَّمُ)
(One who desires people to stand in welcome will have Hell as their abode)
Hadith Number: 4699
4699 - وعن معاوية - رضي الله عنه - قال: قال رسول الله - صلى الله عليه وسلم:"من سره ان يتمثل له الرجال قياما فليتبوا مقعده من النار"رواه الترمذي، وابو داود.
Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever likes that people stand before him, then he should make his abode in the Hellfire." Hasan, narrated by Tirmidhi and Abu Dawood.

قال الشيخ زبير على زئي:حسن
(الْقِيَامُ لِلِاسْتِقْبَالِ عَمَلُ الْعَجَمِ)
(Standing for welcoming is a practice of non-Arabs)
Hadith Number: 4700
4700 - وعن ابي امامة - رضي الله عنه - قال: خرج رسول الله - صلى الله عليه وسلم - متكئا على عصا، فقمنا له فقال:"لا تقوموا كما يقوم الاعاجم يعظم بعضهم بعضا". رواه ابو داود.
Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came out leaning on a staff, so we stood up for him. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not stand up as the non-Arabs stand up for each other in veneration." Its chain is weak. Narrated by Abu Dawood.

قال الشيخ زبير على زئي:إسناده ضعيف
(مَنْعُ الْقِيَامِ لِتَعْظِيمِ أَحَدٍ)
(Prohibition of standing in respect for someone)
Hadith Number: 4701
4701 - وعن سعيد بن ابي الحسن - رضي الله عنهما - قال: جاءنا ابو بكرة رضي الله عنه في شهادة، فقام له رجل من مجلسه، فابى ان يجلس فيه ، وقال: إن النبي - صلى الله عليه وسلم - نهى عن ذا، ونهى النبي - صلى الله عليه وسلم - ان يمسح الرجل يده بثوب من لم يكسه. رواه ابو داود.
Saeed bin Abul Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates: Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) came to us regarding a testimony, so a man stood up for him out of respect. He refused to sit there and said that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade this, and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) also forbade that a person should wipe his hand with the garment of another person which he has not put on him. Its chain is weak. Narrated by Abu Dawood.

(وَضْعُ الثَّوْبِ لِحَجْزِ مَكَانِ الْجُلُوسِ)
(Placing a cloth to reserve a sitting place)
Hadith Number: 4702
4702 - وعن ابي الدرداء - رضي الله عنه - قال: كان رسول الله - صلى الله عليه وسلم - إذا جلس وجلسنا حوله ، فقام، فاراد الرجوع، نزع نعله او بعض ما يكون عليه، فيعرف ذلك اصحابه فيثبتون. رواه ابو داود.
Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would sit, we would sit around him. Then when he would stand up and intended to return, he would take off his sandal or place something of his there, by which the companions would understand (that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, would return), and they would remain sitting there. Its chain is weak. Narrated by Abu Dawood.

(عَدَمُ الْجُلُوسِ بَيْنَ اثْنَيْنِ جَالِسَيْنِ بِغَيْرِ إِذْنٍ)
(Not sitting between two seated people without permission)
Hadith Number: 4703
4703 - وعن عبد الله بن عمرو - رضي الله عنهما - عن رسول الله - صلى الله عليه وسلم - قال:"لا يحل لرجل ان يفرق بين اثنين إلا بإذنهما". رواه الترمذي وابو داود.
Abdullah bin Amr, may Allah be pleased with him, narrates from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, that he said: "It is not permissible for a man to separate two people without their permission (and sit between them)." Its chain is good. Narrated by Tirmidhi and Abu Dawood.

قال الشيخ زبير على زئي:إسناده حسن
(عَدَمُ تَفْرِيقِ الْجَالِسِينَ بِغَيْرِ إِذْنٍ)
(Not separating seated people without permission)
Hadith Number: 4704
4704 - وعن عمرو بن شعيب، عن ابيه، عن جده، ان رسول الله - صلى الله عليه وسلم - قال:"لا تجلس بين رجلين إلا بإذنهما". رواه ابو داود.
Amr bin Shu'aib narrates from his father, and he from his grandfather, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Do not sit between two people without their permission." Its chain is Hasan. Narrated by Abu Dawood.

(Standing for bidding farewell)
Hadith Number: 4705
الفصل الثالث 4705 - عن ابي هريرة رضي الله عنه - قال: كان رسول الله - صلى الله عليه وسلم - يجلس معنا في المسجد يحدثنا، فإذا قام قمنا قياما حتى نراه قد دخل بعض بيوت ازواجه.
Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to sit with us in the mosque and converse with us, and when he would stand up, we would remain standing for a long time until we saw that he had entered the house of one of his noble wives. Its chain is weak; it was narrated by Al-Bayhaqi in Shu'ab al-Iman.

(تَوْسِيعُ الْمَجْلِسِ)
(Making space in the gathering)
Hadith Number: 4706
4706 - وعن واثلة بن الخطاب - رضي الله عنه - قال: دخل رجل إلى رسول الله - صلى الله عليه وسلم - وهو في المسجد قاعد، فتزحزح له رسول الله - صلى الله عليه وسلم - فقال الرجل: يا رسول الله! إن في المكان سعة، فقال النبي - صلى الله عليه وسلم -"إن للمسلم لحقا إذا رآه اخوه ان يتزحزح له". رواهما البيهقي في شعب الإيمان.
Wathilah bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) reports: A man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) while he was sitting in the mosque. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) moved from his place for him. The man said, "O Messenger of Allah! There is enough space." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Indeed, it is the right of a Muslim that when his brother sees him, he should move (a little) for him." Imam Bayhaqi has mentioned both hadiths in Shu'ab al-Iman. Its chain is weak. Narrated by al-Bayhaqi in Shu'ab al-Iman.

(الْجُلُوسُ مُتَرَبِّعًا جَائِزٌ)
(Sitting cross-legged is permissible)
Hadith Number: 4707
(5) باب الجلوس والنوم والمشي الفصل الاول 4707 - عن ابن عمر رضى الله عنهما - قال: رايت رسول الله بفناء الكعبة محتبيا بيديه . رواه البخاري.
Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, narrates: I saw the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, sitting in the courtyard of the Ka'bah with his hands clasped around his knees. Narrated by al-Bukhari.
