حدثنا سفيان ، قال: حدثنا ايوب ، عن محمد بن سيرين ، عن ابي هريرة ، قال: صلى بنا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم إحدى صلاتي العشي، إما الظهر وإما العصر، واكثر ظني انها العصر ركعتين، ثم انصرف إلى جذع في المسجد فاستند إليه وهو مغضب، وخرج سرعان الناس يقولون: قصرت الصلاة، قصرت الصلاة، وفي القوم ابو بكر وعمر، فهابا ان يكلماه، فقام ذو اليدين، فقال: يا رسول الله!، اقصرت الصلاة، ام نسيت؟ فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم:" ما يقول ذو اليدين"؟ فقالوا: صدق، فصلى بنا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ركعتين، ثم سلم، ثم كبر وسجد كسجوده، او اطول، ثم رفع، ثم كبر فسجد، ثم كبر ورفع" , قال محمد : فاخبرت عن عمران بن حصين ، عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، انه قال: وسلم ,
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in one of the two afternoon prayers, perhaps it was the Zuhr prayer or perhaps the Asr prayer, though I am more inclined to think it was the Asr prayer. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ended the prayer after two rak‘ahs by saying salam. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) went towards a trunk present in the mosque and leaned against it. He (peace and blessings be upon him) was in a state of anger at that time. The hasty people left the mosque, saying:“The prayer has been shortened. The prayer has been shortened.”Among those present were Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), but neither of them had the courage to speak to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about this. Sayyiduna Dhul-Yadayn (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and said:“O Messenger of Allah! Has the prayer been shortened or did you (peace and blessings be upon him) forget?”The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked:“What is Dhul-Yadayn saying?”The people replied:“He is speaking the truth.”So the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in two rak‘ahs, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said salam, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said takbir, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) performed a prostration like his usual prostration, or perhaps a lengthy prostration. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his head, then said takbir and performed a prostration, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his head saying takbir. The narrator named Muhammad bin Sirin says: I have come to know that Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated regarding the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said salam.

Hadith Number 1014

حدثنا سفيان ، قال: حدثنا ابن ابي لبيد ، عن ابي سلمة ، عن ابي هريرة نحو حديث ايوب رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يمينا وشمالا، وقال: ما يقول ذو اليدين؟.
This narration is also transmitted from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) with another chain of transmission, however, in this there are additional words. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) looked to his right and to his left and inquired: "What is Dhu’l-Yadayn saying?"

حدثنا سفيان ، قال: حدثنا ايوب ، عن محمد ، عن ابي هريرة ، قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: " إذا اقام احدكم من الليل، فليصل ركعتين خفيفتين يفتتح بها صلاته" .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When a person wakes up at night, he should perform two short rak‘ahs with which he should begin his prayer."

حدثنا سفيان ، قال: حدثنا ايوب ، عن محمد ، عن ابي هريرة ، قال: قال ابو القاسم صلى الله عليه وسلم:" إن في الجمعة لساعة لا يوافقها عبد مسلم قائم يصلي يسال الله تعالى فيها خيرا إلا اعطاه إياه" ، واشار بيده يقللها، وقبض سفيان، يقول: قليل.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Abu al-Qasim (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is a specific hour on Friday; at that time, if any Muslim servant stands and performs prayer, whatever good he asks from Allah Almighty at that time, Allah Almighty will grant him that good." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) indicated with his blessed hand that it is a very short time.

حدثنا سفيان ، قال: حدثنا إسماعيل بن ابي خالد ، عن ابيه ، قال: قدمت المدينة، فنزلت على ابي هريرة وكان بينه وبين موالي قرابة، فكان ابو هريرة " يؤم الناس فيخفف، فقلت: يا ابا هريرة هكذا كانت صلاة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم؟ قال: نعم، واوجز" .
Ismail bin Abu Khalid narrates from his father: I came to Madinah Munawwarah and stayed as a guest with Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him). There was a relationship of kinship between him and my mawali. Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) used to lead people in prayer and he used to lead a short prayer. I said: O Abu Hurairah! Did the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) use to lead prayer like this? He replied: Yes. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to lead an even shorter prayer than this.

حدثنا سفيان ، قال: حدثنا محمد بن عجلان ، عن القعقاع ، عن ابي صالح ، عن ابي هريرة ، ان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، قال:" إنما انا لكم مثل الوالد اعلمكم، فإذا ذهب احدكم الغائط، فلا يستقبل القبلة، ولا يستدبرها بغائط ولا بول، وامر ان نستنجي بثلاثة احجار، ونهى عن الروث والرمة، وان يستنجي الرجل بيمينه" .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "I am like a father to you. I will teach and train you. When a person goes to relieve himself, he should neither face the Qiblah nor turn his back towards it while defecating or urinating." The narrator says: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) instructed us to perform istinja (cleaning) with three stones, and he forbade us from using dung and bones for istinja. He also forbade that a person should perform istinja with his right hand.

حدثنا سفيان، قال: حدثنا محمد بن عمرو بن علقمة، قال: سمعت مليح بن عبد الله السعدي يحدث، عن ابي هريرة ، قال:" إن الذي يرفع راسه ويخفضه قبل الإمام، فإنما ناصيته بيد شيطان" , قال ابو بكر: وقد كان سفيان ربما رفعه وربما لم يرفعه.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Whoever raises or lowers his head before the Imam, his forehead is in the hand of Satan.
Imam Abu Bakr Humaydi narrates: Sufyan sometimes transmits this narration as a "Marfu‘" (attributed to the Prophet) hadith. Sometimes he does not transmit it as a "Marfu‘" hadith.

حدثنا سفيان ، قال: حدثنا ابن جريج ، عن عطاء ، قال: سمعنا ابا هريرة ، يقول:" في كل الصلاة اقرا، فما اسمعنا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم اسمعناكم، وما اخفى منا اخفينا منكم، كل صلاة لا يقرا فيها بام القرآن، فهي خداج" , فقال له الرجل: ارايت إن قرات بها وحدها تجزئ عني؟ قال: إن انتهيت إليها اجزات عنك، فإن زدت فهو احسن.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I recite in every prayer, however, in those prayers in which the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite aloud, we also recite aloud in front of you, and in those prayers in which the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite quietly, we also recite quietly in front of you. Any prayer in which Surah Al-Fatihah is not recited is incomplete. A man asked Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him): What is your opinion? If I only recite Surah Al-Fatihah, will it be permissible for me? Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: If you only recite it, then it will be permissible for you, but if you recite more along with it, then that will be better.

حدثنا سفيان ، قال: حدثنا ايوب بن موسى ، عن عطاء بن ميناء ، عن ابي هريرة ، قال: " سجدنا مع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم في إذا السماء انشقت، واقرا باسم ربك , قال سفيان: وكان عطاء بن ميناء من اصحاب ابي هريرة المعروفين.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We performed the prostration of recitation along with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in Surah Inshiqaq and Surah Al-Alaq. Sufyan says: The narrator named Ata bin Mina is among the well-known students of Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him).

حدثنا سفيان ، قال: حدثنا يحيى بن سعيد ، عن ابي بكر بن محمد بن عمرو بن حزم ، عن عمر بن عبد العزيز ، عن ابي بكر بن عبد الرحمن بن الحارث بن هشام ، عن ابي هريرة ، قال:" سجدنا مع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم في إذا السماء انشقت، و اقرا باسم ربك الذي خلق" , قال الحميدي: قيل لسفيان: فيه و اقرا باسم ربك؟ قال: نعم.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We performed the prostration of recitation along with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in Surah Inshiqaq and Surah Al-Alaq.
Imam Humaydi says: Sufyan was asked: Is Surah Al-Alaq mentioned in the narration? He replied: Yes.
