Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah
Chapter: Walking between Safa and Marwa except for running in the valley
Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says that in the narration of Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him), when the feet of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) reached the lower part of the valley, he began to run, and when he started to ascend, he resumed walking at a normal pace.

I fear that a person who does not understand the difference between a concise and an explanatory narration may think that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) ran the entire distance from Safa to Marwah and from Marwah to Safa.

Hazrat Amr bin Dinar narrates that we asked Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them), so he said: Indeed, when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Makkah Mukarramah, he performed seven circuits (Tawaf) of the Sacred House (Baytullah), and offered two rak‘ahs at Maqam Ibrahim, and performed seven circuits (Sa‘i) between Safa and Marwah. (Then Ibn Umar said) «لَّقَدْ كَانَ لَكُمْ فِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ» [ سورة الأحزاب: 21 ] "Indeed, for you in the Messenger of Allah (is) the best example."

Chapter: Clarification of the general term regarding sa‘i between Safa and Marwa
Hadith Number:
And the explanation of the evidence that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) only ran in the low part of the valley during the Sa’i between Safa and Marwah, and not that he ran the entire distance between Safa and Marwah.
Imam Abu Bakr, may Allah have mercy on him, says that in the narration of Sayyiduna Jabir, may Allah be pleased with him, which I have mentioned earlier, it is stated: When the Prophet's feet reached the lower part of the valley, he started running, and then when he began to ascend, he walked at a normal pace.

Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that when the mount of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) would bring him straight to the mosque of Dhul-Hulaifah during his journey for Hajj or Umrah, he would recite the Talbiyah. Then he narrated the rest of the hadith and said: Then he came towards the hill of Safa and performed Sa’i between Safa and Marwah. When he passed through the place of running, he ran.

Chapter: Explanation that sa‘i between Safa and Marwa is obligatory, not merely permissible
Hadith Number: Q2764
For His saying [تَعَالَى] : "So whoever makes Hajj to the House or performs Umrah, there is no blame upon him to walk between them" [الْبَقَرَةِ: 158] .
And the evidence that His saying: "there is no blame upon him to walk between them" is not in meaning like His saying: "there is no blame upon you to shorten the prayer" [

Hazrat Habibah bint Abu Tujrah narrates that in the days of ignorance, we had a window (which opened towards Safa and Marwah). She says that I looked through the ventilator between Safa and Marwah, and my eyes fell upon the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) while he was running, and he was saying to his noble companions: "Run, for Allah Almighty has made running (at this place) obligatory upon you." Indeed, I saw that due to the speed, his lower garment was turning around his blessed stomach, until I saw the whiteness of his stomach and thigh.

Hazrat Safiyyah bint Shaybah narrates that a woman told her that she heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) say between Safa and Marwah: "(Believers) Running (Sa'i) has been made obligatory upon you, so you should run." Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says that the name of the woman not mentioned in this narration is Habibah bint Abi Tijarah.
