Chapter: Description of the sermon on the Day of ‘Arafah
Hadith Number: 2808
Sayyiduna Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) during the Farewell Hajj, on the day of Arafat, while delivering the sermon, saying: "Be aware! Indeed, your blood, your wealth, and your honor are sacred to one another just as the sanctity of this day of yours, just as this month of yours is sacred, just as this city of yours is sacred."

Chapter: Explanation that the Prophet gave the sermon at ‘Arafah while riding, not standing on the ground
Hadith Number: 2809
Hazrat Ja'far bin Muhammad narrates from his father that he said: We presented ourselves before Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both), then he narrated the complete hadith and said: Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) reached Arafat (without stopping at Muzdalifah and the valley of Arafah, etc.), and when the sun had declined, he ordered that a saddle be placed on his she-camel Qaswa, so it was saddled. Then he mounted it and came to the middle of the valley of Arafat and addressed the people. He said: "Indeed, your blood and your wealth are sacred to you just as the sanctity of this day of yours, in this month of yours, in this city of yours. Beware! All actions of the days of ignorance are abolished. I forgive first the blood of Ibn Rabi'ah bin Harith from among my killed ones; he was being suckled among Banu Sa'd when the people of the tribe of Hudhail killed him. All usury of the days of ignorance is also abolished, and the first usury I abolish is that of my uncle, Sayyiduna Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him), which is owed by people. Fear Allah regarding women, for you have taken them as a trust from Allah, and have made their private parts lawful for yourselves by the word of Allah. Your right over them is that they do not allow anyone you dislike to sit on your bed; if they do so, you may lightly punish them. Their right over you is that you provide them with food and clothing according to custom. And indeed, I am leaving among you something, that as long as you hold fast to it, you will never go astray. That is the Book of Allah, the Noble Qur'an. And (on the Day of Judgment) you will be asked about me, so what will you say?" The Companions said: We bear witness that you have conveyed all the messages of your Lord, and have fulfilled the right of advising your Ummah, and have fulfilled your responsibility in the best manner. Then he raised his forefinger towards the sky and pointed it towards the people and said: "O Allah, bear witness. O Allah, bear witness." Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I have clarified in the Book of Nikah that the meaning of your statement "do not allow anyone you dislike to sit on your bed" is that they should not let anyone you dislike tread upon your bed with their feet, nor allow anyone to sit on it whom you dislike. As the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not sit in a person's special seat without his permission." A man's bed is also his special seat. The meaning of your statement is not that they should not commit adultery with someone you dislike, as some ignorant people have misunderstood.

It is narrated from Hazrat Salim bin Abdullah that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) came to Hajjaj bin Yusuf after the sun had declined on the day of Arafat; I was also with him. He said, "If you want to act upon the Sunnah of the Prophet, then come (and deliver the sermon)." He (Hajjaj) asked, "Should I come now?" He replied, "Yes, come now." Hazrat Salim narrates that I said to Hajjaj, "If today you want to act upon the Sunnah of the Prophet, then deliver a brief sermon and lead the prayer quickly." Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said, "Salim has spoken the truth."

Chapter: Not praying voluntary prayers between Zuhr and ‘Asr when combined at ‘Arafah, and the time to proceed to the standing place
Hadith Number: 2812
Jabir bin Muhammad narrates from his noble father that he said, We presented ourselves before Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both), and he narrated in detail the incident of the Farewell Pilgrimage. He said, Then the Noble Prophet delivered a sermon. Then Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) called the adhan, then he pronounced the iqamah, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led the Zuhr prayer. Then he pronounced the iqamah for Asr, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led the Asr prayer. He did not perform any (nafl) prayer between these two prayers. Then he mounted his she-camel Qaswa and proceeded to the place of standing (the place for supplicating).

Hadith Number: 2813
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) used to lead the people of Makkah in two rak‘ahs and then would say salam, after which they would stand up and complete the remainder of their prayer. The year Hajjaj bin Yusuf came to Makkah Mukarramah to fight against Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him), Hazrat Salim informed Hajjaj of some issues. He requested Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) to inform him how to perform the rites of Hajj at Arafat. Hazrat Salim says: I told him,“If you want to act upon the Sunnah of the Prophet, then on the day of Arafat, perform the prayer at its earliest time.”Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said,“Salim has spoken the truth.”The Companions used to combine the Zuhr and Asr prayers on the day of Arafat and perform them according to the Sunnah. I asked Salim,“Did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) do this?”He replied,“Indeed, the Companions only followed the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).”

Hazrat Salim bin Abdullah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Abdul Malik bin Marwan wrote a letter to Hajjaj bin Yusuf, ordering him not to oppose Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) in the performance of the rites of Hajj. Therefore, when the day of Arafat came, Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) came to Hajjaj bin Yusuf as soon as the sun declined; I was also with him. He came near Hajjaj’s tent and called out to him,“Where is Hajjaj?”So Hajjaj, wrapped in a sheet, came to him. He said,“O Abu Abdur Rahman, tell me, what is the command?”He (Ibn Umar) said,“If you want to act upon the Sunnah of the Prophet, then come now.”He replied,“I will pour water over my body and come with you right away.”So they waited for him until he came out, and he began to walk between me and my respected father. I said to him,“If you want to attain the Sunnah of the Prophet, then keep the sermon short and hasten to the standing (wuquf).”So he began to look towards Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) so that he could hear the same thing from him.
