Chapter: Prohibition of standing at ‘Urnah
Hadith Number: 2817
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that it used to be said: "Go beyond the Valley of Muhassir and the Valley of 'Aranah." The meaning of 'Aranah is that you should not stay in the Valley of 'Arafah, and the prohibition regarding the Valley of Muhassir means that when staying in Muzdalifah, do not stop in the Valley of Muhassir; rather, leave it and stay ahead.

Chapter: Explanation that standing at ‘Arafah is from the Sunnah of Ibrahim and inherited by the Ummah of Muhammad
Hadith Number: 2818
Hazrat Yazid bin Shaiban narrates that Sayyiduna Ibn Murabba’ Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) came to us while we were staying behind the place of standing in the valley of Arafat. Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) considered this place to be far from the Imam’s place of standing. So he (Ibn Murabba’) said: I am a messenger to you from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).

Hazrat Yazid bin Shaiban narrates that we were standing behind the place of standing (Mauqif), and according to Hazrat Amr, this place was very far from the Imam's place of standing. Then Ibn Murabba’ Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) came to us and said, "Indeed, I am the messenger of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to you. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commands you to stay at your places marked by your signs, for you are upon one of the inheritances from the legacy of Ibrahim (peace be upon him)." In another narration, Hazrat Abu Ammar narrates that we were staying at a place far from the Mauqif, then our master Ibn Murabba’ Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) came to us.

And the evidence that the one who departs from Arafah after the sun has passed its zenith but before sunset on the night of sacrifice attains Hajj and does not miss it, contrary to the statement of those who claim that the one who departs from Arafah and leaves its boundary before sunset on the night of sacrifice misses Hajj, unless he returns and enters the boundary of Arafah before the break of dawn on the day of sacrifice.

Sayyiduna ‘Urwah bin Mudarris bin Aws bin Harithah bin Lam Ta’i (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was staying at Muzdalifah. I said,“O Messenger of Allah, I have come to you from the mountains of the Tayy tribe. I have exhausted my mount and I myself am worn out with fatigue. By Allah, I did not leave any hill but that I stayed upon it. Has my Hajj been completed?”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Whoever has performed this (Fajr) prayer with us and has stayed with us at this place (Muzdalifah), and before that he came from ‘Arafat by day or night, then his Hajj is complete and he has fulfilled his rites (and removed his dirt).”

Chapter: Explanation that the prayer mentioned by the Prophet—"whoever prayed with us this prayer"—was Fajr only
Hadith Number: 2821
Sayyiduna Urwah bin Mudarris (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I was performing Hajj for the first time when I came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) while he was present at Muzdalifah. When dawn broke, you went out for the morning prayer. I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have come to you from the mountains of the Tayy tribe. I have exhausted my mount and I myself am completely worn out with fatigue. I have not left any hill except that I stayed on it (thinking perhaps this is Arafat)." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever has performed this prayer with us and then stayed with us until we depart from here, and before that he has stayed at Arafat by day or by night, then he has completed his purification and his Hajj is complete." In the narration of Janab Dawood, it is mentioned that when dawn broke, he went out for the prayer. Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says that by this Dawood, Dawood bin Yazid Awdi is meant.

Chapter: Evidence that if a pilgrim does not reach ‘Arafah before dawn on the Day of Sacrifice, he misses Hajj
Hadith Number: 2822
Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Ya'mar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I was present with the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) at Arafat, and some people from Najd also came to him while they too were at Arafat. They asked you a question, so you ordered a caller to announce, and he made this proclamation: "Hajj is (standing at) Arafat. Whoever reaches Arafat before the dawn of the night of Muzdalifah, he has attained Hajj. The days of staying in Mina are three. Then whoever hastens in two days, there is no sin upon him, and whoever delays (and spends the third day in Mina), there is also no sin upon him." And the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) seated a man behind him on his mount who was making this announcement. Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says that these words "Hajj is Arafat" are of the same kind as I have explained in the Book of Faith, that sometimes the application of a definite noun with 'al' (the) is made not for the whole thing but for a part or portion of it. The Prophet (peace be upon him), by saying "al-Hajj," meant the standing at Arafat, although the standing at Arafat is not the complete Hajj, but rather a part of Hajj. I have explained this type in the Book of Faith; for the one whom Allah has granted religious understanding and guidance to the right path, this is sufficient.

Sayyiduna Jubair bin Mut’im (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the people of Quraysh used to return from Muzdalifah and would say,“We are Hums (firm and better people in religion), so we will not go outside the boundaries of the Haram.”These people had abandoned the standing at Arafat. He says,“I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) with the people in the plain of Arafat, mounted on his camel. Then in the morning, he would join his people at Muzdalifah, and he would stay with them until when they returned towards Mina, he would set out with them.”

Chapter: Raising hands in supplication while standing at ‘Arafah, and permission to raise only one hand if needed
Hadith Number: 2824
Sayyiduna Usamah bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I was riding behind the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) on a camel in Arafat. When he raised both his hands for supplication, his camel tilted him to one side, causing its rein to fall. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) took the rein in one hand and raised the other hand for supplication.

Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) returned from Arafat and seated Sayyiduna Usamah (may Allah be pleased with him) behind him (on the mount). His she-camel tilted him to one side while he had both hands raised in supplication, but they were not raised above his head, until he reached Muzdalifah. When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) departed from Muzdalifah, Sayyiduna Fadl bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) was seated behind him. Sayyiduna Fadl (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Prophet (peace be upon him) continued to recite the Talbiyah until he stoned Jamrah Aqabah.
