It is narrated from Hazrat Ata that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed about the death of three companions who were killed in the Battle of Mu'tah, and then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) offered their funeral prayer.

Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Jubair bin Nafeer says, when the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) were deeply grieved over those who were martyred with Hazrat Zaid in the Battle of Mu'tah, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Surely, some people from this Ummah will meet the Messiah. And those people will be better than you or like you." He said this three times. "And Allah Almighty will not destroy such a nation whose beginning is with me and whose end is with the Messiah."

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) received the news of the death of Hazrat Ja'far, we saw signs of grief on the blessed face of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says: Then a man came to the service of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! The women are crying." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go back to them, make them quiet, and if they refuse, then throw dust in their mouths." The narrator says: Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I said to myself, "You do not even spare yourself, nor do you carry out the command of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)."

Yahya bin ‘Abbad bin ‘Abdullah bin Zubair narrates from his father and grandfather that a man from Banu Murrah, whose wife had nursed me, related to me. He said: It is as if I am seeing Ja‘far in the Battle of Mu’tah; he dismounted from his white and red horse, then cut its thighs, and went on and fought until he was killed (martyred).

Hazrat Hasan bin Sa’d narrates that when the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) received the news of the martyrdom of Hazrat Zaid, Ja’far, and Abdullah bin Rawaha, he (peace and blessings be upon him) informed the people of their passing. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) had left Hazrat Asma in a state where she was weeping. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) (again) came to Hazrat Asma and offered her condolences and said:“Bring my nephews to me.”The narrator says: Then Hazrat Asma brought three children who were like baby birds. Asma says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called the barber and had their heads shaved and said:“Muhammad resembles our uncle Abu Talib, and Aunullah in appearance and character resembles me.”And as for Abdullah, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took his hand, lifted him up, and prayed:“O Allah! Bless the dealings of Abdullah’s right hand.”The narrator says: Their mother, Hazrat Asma, complained to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about their (being orphaned), so he (peace and blessings be upon him) replied:“Do you fear for their being lost? Whereas I am their guardian in this world and the Hereafter.”

It is narrated from Hazrat Salim bin Abi Ja'd that the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was shown the martyrs of Mu'tah… in a dream. Accordingly, he saw Hazrat Ja'far in the form of an angel who had two wings and was drenched in blood, and he saw Hazrat Zaid on a throne opposite him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Ibn Rawahah was sitting with them in such a manner as if he was turning away from them.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Maisarah that when the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) received the news of the martyrdom of Hazrat Ja'far, Zaid bin Harithah, and Abdullah bin Rawahah, he (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed while mentioning them: O Allah! Forgive Zaid. O Allah! Forgive Ja'far. And forgive Abdullah bin Rawahah.

It is narrated from Hazrat Qais bin Abi Hazim that Hazrat Usama came after the killing of his father, so the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood up before him (to receive him), and the eyes of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) filled with tears. Then, when the next day came and Hazrat Usama came again and you stood in the same place, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Should I receive you today in the same way as I received you yesterday?"

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) used to say: The Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) never sent Zaid bin Harithah with any army except that he appointed him as the commander of that army. And if Zaid had remained after the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace and blessings be upon him) would have made him the caliph (as well).

It is narrated from Hazrat Aamir that Ummul Momineen Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) used to say that if Hazrat Zaid had been alive, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would have made him the caliph.
