Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: In the sacred era of the Prophet (peace be upon him), the mosque was built with unbaked bricks, and palm branches were placed on its roof. Its pillars were of palm trees. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) did not make any addition to it. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) expanded it; he rebuilt it with unbaked bricks and branches according to the foundations from the time of the Prophet (peace be upon him). He made its pillars of wood again. Then Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) made changes to it and expanded it greatly. He had its walls built with decorated stones, its pillars made of decorated stones, and its roof made of teak wood.

Qais bin Talq narrates from his father: We, a group of six men, came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as a delegation. Five of us belonged to Banu Hanifa and the sixth person was from the tribe of Dhabiah bin Rabi’ah. When we presented ourselves before the Prophet (peace be upon him), we accepted Islam at his blessed hand. We performed prayer behind him. We informed him that there was a church in our area. We requested him to grant us the leftover water from his ablution. So the Prophet (peace be upon him) called for water and performed ablution with it, rinsed his mouth, and then poured the water into a vessel for us. Then he said: Take this water, and when you reach your area, demolish that church, sprinkle this water at its place, and build a mosque there. We said: Our area is very far; this water will dry up. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Keep adding more water to it, for as a result, its purity will only increase. The narrator says: We set out, and we disagreed about who would carry the vessel of water, so the Prophet (peace be upon him) assigned each of us a turn for one day and one night. We took it with us until we reached our area, and then we did as the Prophet (peace be upon him) had commanded us. The priest of that people was a man from the tribe of Tay. When we gave the call to prayer, the priest said: This is the call of truth. Then he ran away and was never seen again.

Amr bin Dinar narrates: He heard Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) saying: When the Ka'bah was being constructed, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) were carrying stones. Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): "Place your waistcloth on your shoulder so that you may be protected from the stones." The narrator says the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) did so, and then he fell to the ground. His eyes turned towards the sky, then he stood up and said: "My waistcloth, my waistcloth."
