So Sayyiduna Mu'adh replied: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wanted that he should not put his Ummah in difficulty.

Sayyiduna Mu’adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: On the occasion of the Battle of Tabuk, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to depart before the sun had declined, he would delay the Zuhr prayer until he combined it with the Asr prayer, and he would perform both prayers together. And when he intended to depart after the sun had declined, he would perform the Zuhr and Asr prayers together and then set out. Similarly, when he intended to depart before Maghrib, he would delay the Maghrib prayer until he performed it together with the Isha prayer, and when he intended to depart after Maghrib, he would perform the Isha prayer early and combine it with the Maghrib prayer. I heard Muhammad bin Ishaq Thaqafi say: I heard Qutaybah bin Sa’id say: There are seven hadith memorisers who have marked this hadith from me (they are): Ahmad bin Hanbal, Yahya bin Ma’in, Humaydi, Abu Bakr bin Abu Shaybah, Abu Khaythamah, until he counted seven individuals.

Sayyiduna Usama bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: On the day of Arafah, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) set out until when he reached the valley, he dismounted from his ride, relieved himself, then performed ablution but did not do it thoroughly. I requested him about prayer. He said: The prayer will be performed ahead. Then he mounted (his ride). When he reached Muzdalifah, he dismounted from his ride, performed ablution thoroughly, then the call for prayer (iqamah) was given, so the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) performed the Maghrib prayer. Then this person tied his camel at his place of stay, then the call for prayer (iqamah) was given for the Isha prayer, so the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) performed this prayer. He did not perform any (nafl) prayer between the two.

Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: On the occasion of the Battle of Tabuk, those people set out with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to combine the Zuhr and Asr prayers, as well as the Maghrib and Isha prayers. The narrator states: One day, he delayed the prayer, then he came out and performed the Zuhr and Asr prayers together. Then he went inside, then he came out again and performed the Maghrib and Isha prayers together. Then he said: "Tomorrow you will reach the spring of Tabuk, if Allah wills. You will reach it when the day has risen. Whoever reaches there should not touch its water before I arrive." The narrator states: We reached there, and two people had already arrived before us. The spring was like a strap, from which drops of water were trickling. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked both of them: "Did you touch its water?" They replied: "Yes." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) expressed displeasure with them and said to them whatever Allah willed. Then the people took a little water from the spring in their hands until it was collected in something. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) washed his face and both hands with that water, then poured that water back into the spring. Then a great amount of water gushed forth from the spring. The people took water from it. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Mu'adh! If you live long, soon a time will come when you will see that there will be gardens all around here, which will be irrigated by this spring."
