Ismail Shaybani narrates: I sold the fruit on the date-palm trees in exchange for one hundred wasq of dates, on the condition that if the fruit on the tree turned out to be more, it would go to them, and if it turned out to be less, the loss would also be theirs. I asked Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) about this, and he said: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade this, however, he permitted it in the case of ‘ariyah.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: We were traveling with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). I was riding a camel belonging to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) which was difficult (to control); it would overpower me and go ahead of the people. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) would scold it and bring it back, but it would go ahead again. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) would scold it again and bring it back. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him): "Sell it to me." He replied: "O Messenger of Allah! It is yours." The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Sell it to me." The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) bought that camel from him, then the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abdullah bin Umar! It is yours, do with it as you wish."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wore a gold ring, then he removed it, then he wore a silver ring whose stone was also made of silver. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would keep its stone towards the palm of his hand. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had“Muhammad Rasul Allah”engraved on it, and he forbade anyone from engraving in the same manner. This is the same ring that fell into the well of“Arees”from Sayyiduna Mu’ayqib (may Allah be pleased with him).

Mujahid narrates: I went with Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) up to Thaniyyah, and I did not hear him narrate any hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) except one. He narrated: Once we were in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and gum from the date-palm tree was brought to him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I know of a tree whose example is like that of a Muslim servant." (Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar [may Allah be pleased with them both] says:) It came to my mind that it was the date-palm tree, and I was about to speak, but I looked around and saw that I was the youngest among those present, so I remained silent. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is the date-palm tree."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said to me: If you had said this statement, it would have been more beloved to me than such and such thing. Nafi’ reports: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) assumed the ihram for ‘umrah when he departed from Madinah. Then he said: If I am prevented, I will do as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did. When he reached the place of Bayda’, he said: The status of Hajj and ‘Umrah is the same. I make you all witnesses that I have made Hajj obligatory along with my ‘Umrah. The narrator says: Then Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) came to Makkah, performed tawaf of the House seven times, prayed two rak‘ahs at the Maqam Ibrahim, then performed sa‘i between Safa and Marwah. Then he said: I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) do the same. Ayub bin Musa, in his narration, added these words: When Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) reached the place of Qudayd, he took a sacrificial animal from there and brought it along.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a silk (i.e., made of silk) cloak being sold by a man named ‘Atarid, and he expressed dislike for it and forbade its use. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a similar cloak to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), so he said: O Messenger of Allah! Regarding the cloak of ‘Atarid, you said such-and-such, and now you are giving this to me to wear. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“I did not give it to you so that you may wear it; I gave it to you so that you may give it to women to wear!”

Ismail bin Abdur Rahman narrates: We went with Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) towards the pasture. When the sun had set, we feared (that the time for prayer might pass). We said to him: Please dismount and perform the prayer. When the twilight had disappeared, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) dismounted from his mount and led us in three rak‘ahs of Maghrib prayer. Then he said salam, and then he performed two rak‘ahs of ‘Isha prayer. Then he turned towards us and informed us: I saw the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) do the same. Sufyan says: The narrator named Ibn Abu Najih, most of the time when he narrated this hadith, did not mention these words: "When the twilight had disappeared." Rather, he used these words: "When the whiteness of the horizon and the darkness of the night had gone, then he dismounted from his mount and performed the prayer." Sufyan says: I spoke to Ibn Abu Najih about this, and he informed me: Ismail has narrated these words: "When the twilight had disappeared." I do not like to narrate these words, because Mujahid has informed us: By twilight is meant the day. Sufyan says: So sometimes I narrate this report in these words, and sometimes in those words.

Ibn Abu Najeeh narrates from his father that a man asked Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) about fasting on the day of Arafah. Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) replied: I performed Hajj with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not fast on that day. I performed Hajj with Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), and he also did not fast on that day. I performed Hajj with Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and he also did not fast on that day.
