Hadith Number: 2526
اخبرنا عمران بن موسى بن مجاشع ، قال: حدثنا عثمان بن ابي شيبة ، قال: حدثنا وكيع ، عن كهمس بن الحسن ، عن عبد الله بن شقيق ، قال: قلت لعائشة :" اكان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يصلي الضحى؟"، قالت:" لا، إلا ان يجيء من سفر" .
Abdullah bin Shaqiq narrates: I asked Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her): Did the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) use to perform prayer at the time of Duha? She replied: No, but if he returned from a journey (then on that occasion he would perform prayer at that time).

Hadith Number: 2527
اخبرنا محمد بن عمر بن يوسف ، قال: حدثنا نصر بن علي الجهضمي ، قال: حدثنا يزيد بن زريع ، عن الجريري ، عن عبد الله بن شقيق ، قال: قلت لعائشة :" هل كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يصلي الضحى؟"، فقالت:" لا، إلا ان يجيء من مغيبه" . قلت: قلت:" هل كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يصلي قاعدا؟"، قالت:" نعم، بعدما حطمه السن". قلت: قلت:" هل كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقرن بين السور؟"، قالت:" نعم، من المفصل" . قلت: قلت:" هل كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يصوم شهرا معلوما سوى رمضان؟"، قالت:" والله إن صام شهرا معلوما سوى رمضان حتى مضى لوجهه صلى الله عليه وسلم، ولا افطره حتى مضى لوجهه صلى الله عليه وسلم" .
Abdullah bin Shaqiq (may Allah be pleased with him) reports: I asked Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her): Did the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) use to perform prayer at the time of Duha? She replied: No, but if he returned from a journey (then on that occasion he would perform prayer at that time). I asked: Did the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) perform prayer while sitting? She said: Yes! When he became old (he would perform prayer while sitting). I asked: Did the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) recite combined surahs? She replied: Yes! He would recite the Mufassal surahs (combined). I asked: Did the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) fast in any specific month other than the month of Ramadan? She replied: By Allah! The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) did not fast in any specific month other than Ramadan, until he departed from this world, nor did he ever abandon fasting in any month until he departed from this world.

Section on Duha prayer – mentioning a report refuting the claim that this narration is unique to ‘Aisha
Hadith Number: 2528
اخبرنا ابو عروبة ، قال: حدثنا إسحاق بن إبراهيم الصواف ، قال: حدثنا سالم بن نوح العطار ، قال: حدثنا عبيد الله بن عمر ، عن نافع ، عن ابن عمر " ان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم لم يكن يصلي الضحى إلا ان يقدم من غيبة" ، قال ابو حاتم رضي الله عنه: نفي ابن عمر، وعائشة، عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم صلاة الضحى إلا ان يقدم من سفر او مغيبه، اراد به في المسجد بحضرة الناس دون البيت، وذاك ان من خلق المصطفى صلى الله عليه وسلم كان إذا قدم من سفر بدا بالمسجد، فركع فيه ركعتين، فكان اكثر قدوم المصطفى صلى الله عليه وسلم المدينة من الاسفار والغزوات كان ضحى من اول النهار، ونهى صلى الله عليه وسلم ان يطرق الرجل اهله ليلا.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) would only perform the Duha prayer when he returned from a journey. (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) and Sayyidah Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) have negated that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) performed the Duha prayer. However, when he returned from a journey or after being absent from the city, (the ruling is different). His purpose was to meet the people in the mosque, not at home. The reason for this is that it was among the manners of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) that when he returned from a journey, he would first go to the mosque and perform two rak‘ahs there. So, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) would often return from a journey or a battle at the time of Duha, which is the early part of the day. And the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) has prohibited that a person should go to his wife at night (after a long absence).

Section on Duha prayer – mentioning ‘Aisha’s affirmation of the Prophet’s Duha prayer
Hadith Number: 2529
اخبرنا ابو خليفة ، قال: حدثنا ابو الوليد ، وابن كثير ، قالا: حدثنا شعبة ، قال: اخبرني يزيد الرشك ، عن معاذة ، قالت: سالت عائشة :" اكان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يصلي الضحى؟"، قالت:" نعم، اربع ركعات ويزيد ما شاء الله" ، قال ابو حاتم رضي الله عنه: إثبات عائشة صلاة الضحى للمصطفى صلى الله عليه وسلم ارادت به في البيت دون مسجد الجماعة، لانه صلى الله عليه وسلم قال:" افضل صلاتكم في بيوتكم إلا المكتوبة".
Mu’adhah narrates: I asked Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her): Did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) offer the Duha prayer? She replied: Yes! He used to offer four rak‘ahs and would add more as Allah willed. (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) has mentioned the affirmation of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performing the Duha prayer. By this, she means at home, not the mosque where congregational prayer is held. The meaning is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“The best of your prayers are those which you offer in your homes, except for the obligatory prayer, which is different.”

Section on Duha prayer – mentioning a report indicating that the Prophet used to pray Duha regularly
Hadith Number: 2530
اخبرنا محمد بن الحسن بن قتيبة ، قال: حدثنا حرملة بن يحيى ، قال: حدثنا ابن وهب ، قال: اخبرنا يونس ، عن ابن شهاب ، قال: اخبرني السائب بن يزيد ، عن المطلب بن ابي وداعة ، ان حفصة زوج النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قالت:" لم ار رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يصلي في سبحته وهو جالس حتى كان صلى الله عليه وسلم قبل موته بعام واحد، فرايته يصلي في سبحته وهو جالس، ويرتل السورة حتى تكون اطول من اطول منها" .
The noble wife of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), Sayyidah Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her), narrates: I never saw the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) performing voluntary prayers (nawafil) while sitting, until one year before his passing, I saw him performing voluntary prayers while sitting. He would recite the Surah slowly and with pauses, to the extent that it seemed even longer than the Surah itself.

Section on Duha prayer – mentioning the number of rak’ahs the Prophet used to pray for Duha
Hadith Number: 2531
اخبرنا عمران بن موسى بن مجاشع ، قال: حدثنا عثمان بن ابي شيبة ، قال: حدثنا الفضل بن دكين ، قال: حدثنا عبد الله بن عبد الرحمن بن يعلى الطائفي ، قال: حدثني المطلب بن عبد الله بن حنطب ، عن عائشة ، قالت:" دخل رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم بيتي، فصلى الضحى ثمان ركعات" .
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) came to me and he performed eight rak'ahs of Duha (forenoon) prayer.

Section on Duha prayer – mentioning the recommendation to consistently perform the Duha prayer
Hadith Number: 2532
اخبرنا ابن قتيبة ، حدثنا يزيد بن موهب ، حدثنا الليث بن سعد ، عن عقيل ، عن الزهري ، قال: حدثني عروة ، ان عائشة زوج النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم كانت تقول: " ما كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يسبح سبحة الضحى" ، وكانت عائشة تسبحها. وكانت تقول: وكانت تقول:" إن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ترك كثيرا من العمل خشية ان يستن الناس به، فيفرض عليهم" .
Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) did not perform the Duha prayer. Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) used to perform this prayer. She stated that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) left many actions out of fear that people might adopt them as Sunnah and then they might become obligatory upon them.

Hadith Number: 2533
اخبرنا اخبرنا عمر بن محمد الهمداني ، حدثنا محمد بن عبد الاعلى ، حدثنا معتمر بن سليمان ، قال: سمعت بردا ، يقول: حدثني سليمان بن موسى ، عن مكحول ، عن كثير بن مرة الحضرمي ، عن قيس الجذامي ، عن نعيم بن همار الغطفاني ، عن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، عن ربه تبارك وتعالى انه قال:" يا ابن آدم، صل لي اربع ركعات في اول النهار اكفك آخره" .
Sayyiduna Na’eem bin Hammar Ghatafani (may Allah be pleased with him) reports from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that Allah Almighty says:“O son of Adam! Perform four rak‘ahs for Me in the early part of the day, I will suffice you in its latter part.”

اخبرنا اخبرنا محمد بن المنذر بن سعيد ، حدثنا احمد بن منصور الرمادي ، حدثنا دحيم ، حدثنا الوليد بن مسلم ، حدثنا الوليد بن سليمان بن ابي السائب ، عن بسر بن عبيد الله ، عن ابي إدريس الخولاني ، عن نعيم بن همار الغطفاني ، عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، عن ربه تبارك وتعالى انه قال:" يا ابن آدم، صل لي اربع ركعات اول النهار اكفك آخره" .

Section on Duha prayer – mentioning the greatest reward for one who follows the morning prayer with two rak’ahs of Duha
Hadith Number: 2535
اخبرنا احمد بن علي بن المثنى ، حدثنا ابو بكر بن ابي شيبة ، حدثنا حاتم بن إسماعيل ، عن حميد بن صخر ، عن المقبري ، عن ابي هريرة ، قال: بعث رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم بعثا فاعظموا الغنيمة واسرعوا الكرة، فقال رجل: يا رسول الله، ما راينا بعث قوم اسرع كرة، ولا اعظم غنيمة، من هذا البعث، فقال صلى الله عليه وسلم:" الا اخبركم باسرع كرة واعظم غنيمة من هذا البعث؟ رجل توضا في بيته فاحسن وضوءه، ثم تحمل إلى المسجد، فصلى فيه الغداة، ثم عقب بصلاة الضحى، فقد اسرع الكرة، واعظم الغنيمة" .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) sent out an expedition. They obtained a great amount of spoils of war and returned quickly. A man said: O Messenger of Allah! I have never seen any expedition return so quickly and receive as much booty as this expedition has received. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Shall I not tell you of something by which you can return even more quickly and obtain even more spoils? A person performs ablution well at home, then goes to the mosque and offers the morning prayer, then (remains seated there and then) offers the forenoon (Duha) prayer; such a person returns quickly and obtains even more spoils.
