Section on night prayer – mentioning the virtue for one who wakes up for night prayer
Hadith Number: 2556
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whenever a Muslim man or woman sleeps, knots are tied upon him. When he wakes up and remembers Allah, one knot is untied. If he performs ablution and stands for prayer, he wakes up energetic, having attained goodness, and all his knots are untied. But if he wakes up and does not remember Allah, he wakes up with all his knots still tied, and he wakes up with a heavy mind in a state of laziness, and he does not attain goodness."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):“Our Lord is pleased with two servants: one is the person who (at night) gets up from his bed and blanket, from beside his wife, and goes towards prayer. Allah Almighty says: Look at My servant, he has gotten up from his bed and blanket, from beside his wife, and come towards prayer, desiring what is with Me and fearing what is with Me. The second person is the one who participates in jihad in the way of Allah. People retreat, but this person also knows what calamity will befall him if he retreats, and what reward he will receive if he returns (to the battlefield), so he returns (to the battlefield) until his blood is shed. Then Allah Almighty says to His angels: Look at My servant, he returned hoping for what is with Me and fearing what is with Me, until his blood was shed.”

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Our Lord is pleased with two men: one who gets up from his bed and blanket, leaving his wife, and goes towards prayer. Allah Almighty says to His angels: Look at My servant who has risen from his bed and from his wife to come towards prayer, desiring what is with Me and fearing what is with Me.
Section on night prayer – mentioning the obligation of entering Paradise for one who stands in the darkness of night seeking his Lord
Hadith Number: 2559
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrates: I said, "O Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him! When I see you, my soul becomes purified and my eyes are cooled. Please tell me about everything." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Everything was created from water." I said, "Tell me about something, if I act upon it, I will enter Paradise." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Feed others, spread the greeting of peace, maintain the ties of kinship, and pray at night when people are sleeping; you will enter Paradise in peace." (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The statement of Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, "Tell me about everything," means he intended to ask about everything that was created from water. And the evidence for this being correct is the answer given by the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that he said: "Everything was created from water." So this answer was given exactly in accordance with the question. It does not mean that everything was created from water, even if it is not a created being.

Section on night prayer – mentioning the recommendation to increase night prayer in hopes of avoiding prohibitions
Hadith Number: 2560
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: It was said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! Such-and-such a person spends the whole night in voluntary prayers, but when morning comes, he commits theft." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "That which he recites will soon prevent him from that deed." (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The words of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), "That which he recites will soon prevent him," are of the type about which we have written in our books that sometimes the Arabs attribute an action to the action itself just as they attribute it to the doer. So the Prophet's (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) intent is that when the prayer is genuine in its beginning and end, then the one who prays, along with his prayer, refrains from prohibited things. Its example is the saying of Allah Almighty: "Indeed, prayer prevents indecency and wrongdoing."

Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: It was asked from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) about a person who sleeps until he reaches the morning. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Satan has urinated in his ear." (The narrator is in doubt, perhaps these are the words) "in both his ears?" The narrator named Sufyan says: In our view, what is meant by this is the person who remains asleep at the time of the obligatory prayer.

The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The prayer performed in the middle of the night. He was asked: After the month of Ramadan, which fast is the most virtuous? The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The fast of Allah’s month which people call Muharram.

Abu Muslim narrates: I asked Sayyiduna Abu Dharr Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) which night prayer is the best, so Sayyiduna Abu Dharr Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) the same question that you have asked me, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "At the middle of the night, or perhaps in the middle part of the night." Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever among you fears that he will not be able to wake up in the last part of the night, he should perform Witr in the early part of the night. And whoever among you hopes that he will perform voluntary prayers in the last part of the night, he should perform Witr in the last part of the night, because the recitation done at the end of the night is attended (by the angels) and it has more virtue."
