Zirr bin Hubaish narrates: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) was standing and performing prayer. When he had recited one hundred verses of Surah An-Nisa, he began to supplicate. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Ask, you will be given. He said this three times. So Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) made this supplication: "O Allah! I ask You for such faith that does not turn back, and for such a blessing that does not end, and for companionship with Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) in the highest rank of Jannat al-Khuld."

Ata bin Sa’ib narrates from his father that we were present in the mosque. In the meantime, Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him) came in. He performed the prayer and performed it briefly. Then, as he passed by us, it was said to him: O Abu Yaqzan, you performed a brief prayer. He asked: The prayer you saw, was it brief? We replied: Yes. He said: I even recited in it the supplication which I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) recite. Then he left. One of those present followed him. The narrator named Ata stated that my father followed him but did not like to ask him, so I followed him. He asked him about this supplication. He returned and informed the people about this supplication: (Its words were as follows) "O Allah! I ask You by the means of Your knowledge of the unseen and by Your power over Your creation, to keep me alive as long as life is better for me, and to give me death when death is better for me. O Allah! I ask You for fear of You in the unseen and the seen, and I ask You for the word of truth in anger and in pleasure, and I ask You for moderation in poverty and in wealth. I ask You for a blessing that will never end, and for the coolness of my eyes that will never cease. I ask You for contentment with Your decree, and I ask You for the coolness of life after death (i.e., a good life after death), and I ask You for the pleasure of looking at Your Face, and I ask You for the longing to meet You. (All of this) without any harm and without any misleading trial. O Allah! Adorn us with the beauty of faith and make us guides and guided."

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) would finish reciting in the Fajr prayer, he would say the takbir (and go into bowing), then he would raise his head and recite «سَمِعَ اللهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ رَبَّنَا وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ» , then while standing he would supplicate: "O Allah! Grant deliverance to Walid bin Walid, Salamah bin Hisham, Ayyash bin Abu Rabi’ah, and the weak among the believers. O Allah! Send Your severity upon the tribe of Mudar and inflict upon them a famine like that in the time of Yusuf (Joseph), peace be upon him. O Allah! Curse the tribes of Lihyan, Za’l, Dhakwan, and ‘Usayyah, for they have disobeyed Allah and His Messenger." The narrator says: Then this narration reached us, when this verse was revealed, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) abandoned this practice: "You have nothing to do with this matter, whether Allah turns to them in mercy or punishes them; surely, they are wrongdoers."

Sayyiduna Suhaib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said something in a low voice which we could not understand. He asked: Did you understand what I said? We replied: Yes. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: I mentioned a prophet to whom some armies from his own people were given, so he asked: Who can face them? Then Allah Almighty revealed to him: Choose one third of your people, or I will impose upon them an enemy from others, or I will impose hunger or death upon them. That prophet consulted his people about this. They said: O Prophet of Allah! We leave this matter to you. You choose for us. So he stood in the court of Allah Almighty to pray. Whenever those people turned to Allah Almighty, they would turn to prayer. That prophet performed as much prayer as Allah willed, then he said: O my Lord, as for the imposition of an enemy from another people or hunger, do not impose that upon them, but if death occurs, then impose death upon them for three days. So death was imposed upon them for three days, and seventy thousand of them died. As for the whispering you saw from me, in it I prayed: O Allah! I fight with Your help and attack with Your help. Nothing can happen without the help of Allah Almighty. (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) Sayyiduna Suhaib (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away in the month of Rajab in the year 38 AH during the caliphate of Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), while Abdur Rahman bin Abi Laila was born two years after the caliphate of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) had passed.
