Chapter on Lying – On clarifying that lying darkens the face in both worlds
Hadith Number: 5735
Sayyiduna Abu Barzah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Beware! Indeed, lying blackens the face and tale-bearing is a cause of punishment in the grave."

Chapter on Lying – On clarifying that lying was among the most hated traits to the Prophet
Hadith Number: 5736
Sayyida Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: No evil was more detestable to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) than lying. Sometimes, if a person spoke falsely in the presence of the Prophet (peace be upon him), this matter would remain in his mind continuously, until he came to know that the person had repented anew.

Chapter on Lying – On the permissibility of using ambiguous speech to protect religion or worldly matters
Hadith Number: 5737
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him): Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him) never spoke falsely except three times, and even then, (he spoke) with double meaning; two times regarding Allah Almighty, when he said: "I am sick," and when he said: "Rather, the biggest of them did it." The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) says: Once, he passed by a tyrant ruler, and with Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was his wife, Sayyidah Sarah (may Allah be pleased with her). The king was informed that there is a man here accompanied by a very beautiful woman. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) says: That man summoned Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him). Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him) went to him, and when he was questioned, Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him) said: "She is my (religious) sister." The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) says: Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him) came to Sayyidah Sarah (may Allah be pleased with her) and told her that the ruler had asked about her, and he had told him: "You are my sister, so in the Book of Allah you are my sister, so do not consider me a liar."
The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) says: When the ruler saw Sayyidah Sarah (may Allah be pleased with her), he approached her. Sayyidah Sarah (may Allah be pleased with her) prayed for harm against him, so he was seized. The man said: "Pray to Allah for me; I promise I will not repeat this mistake." Then Sayyidah Sarah (may Allah be pleased with her) prayed for him, and he again tried to approach her. Sayyidah Sarah (may Allah be pleased with her) again prayed against him, and he was seized again, more severely than before. He said: "Pray to Allah for me; I promise I will not do this again." Sayyidah Sarah (may Allah be pleased with her) prayed for him again, and he again tried to approach her. Sayyidah Sarah (may Allah be pleased with her) again prayed for harm, and he was seized again, more severely than the previous two times. He said: "Pray to Allah for me; I promise I will not do this again." Sayyidah Sarah (may Allah be pleased with her) prayed for him, and he was cured. He said to his minister: "You did not bring a human to me; you brought a devil to me." Then he gave Sayyidah Hajarah (may Allah be pleased with her) as a servant to Sayyidah Sarah (may Allah be pleased with her). When Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him) saw this woman, he asked: "Where did she come from?" Sayyidah Sarah (may Allah be pleased with her) replied: "Allah Almighty foiled the plot of the disbelieving sinner and gave Hajarah (may Allah be pleased with her) as a servant."
Whenever Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated this hadith, he would also say: "O people who are nourished by heavenly water, she is your mother." The narrator named Nadr would say these words in a loud voice.
(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The term "nourished by heavenly water" is used for the children of Sayyidah Hajarah (may Allah be pleased with her) because Sayyiduna Isma'il (peace be upon him) was the son of Sayyidah Hajarah (may Allah be pleased with her), and his upbringing was through the water of Zamzam, which is heavenly water. Through this, Allah Almighty honored Sayyiduna Isma'il (peace be upon him). At the time when his mother, Sayyidah Hajarah (may Allah be pleased with her), gave birth to him, his descendants are those who were nourished by heavenly water.

Will there be any sin on me if I show myself to be satisfied to my husband regarding something which he has not given me? Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Once we were traveling with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). A woman was riding her she-camel. That woman scolded the she-camel and cursed it. So the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Take your belongings off this she-camel and leave it, for it has been cursed. The narrator says: The people did exactly that. The sight of that she-camel is as if still before my eyes; it was an ashen-colored she-camel.
(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The uncle of the narrator Abu Qilabah is Amr bin Mu’awiyah bin Zayd al-Jarmi, whose kunyah is Abu Muhallab. Imam Awza’i was mistaken about his kunyah, so he said: His kunyah is Abu Muhajir. The reason is that even a rider sometimes stumbles.

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates: Once we were traveling with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). You (peace be upon him) were searching for Majdi bin Amr Jahni. Our condition was such that five, six, or seven of us would ride one camel in turns. A man from the Ansar, whose name was Uqbah, came to his camel. He made it sit down so that he could mount it, then he made it stand up, but the camel acted a bit mischievously. So that man said: "Get up, may Allah curse you." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) inquired, "Who is the one who cursed his camel?" That man replied, "O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! It is I." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Get down from it. Do not keep a cursed one with us. Do not invoke curses upon yourselves, nor upon your possessions, for you do not know if it may coincide with a time in which the supplication is accepted for you."

Sayyiduna Abu Barzah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Once, a slave girl was riding a camel on which people’s belongings were loaded. She was passing between two mountains, and the path through the mountain was narrow. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) came to that mountain. When the girl saw the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), she began to say,“Get up! O Allah, curse him! O Allah, curse him!”The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:“No mount upon which there is Allah’s curse will remain with us.”
(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The command of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to abandon the mount upon which a curse was invoked contains a hidden ruling, which is the reason for it: that the supplication of the one who curses may be answered. So, when it is known that the supplication of the one who curses has been answered, then we will command him to abandon that mount. But due to the cessation of revelation, it is no longer possible to know this; therefore, it is not permissible for anyone to act upon this deed now.

Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) went towards the Eid ground on the occasion of Eid al-Adha or Eid al-Fitr. He (peace be upon him) performed the prayer, then after finishing the prayer, he (peace be upon him) stood up and, while advising and exhorting the people, instructed them to give charity. He (peace be upon him) said: O people, give charity. Then he (peace be upon him) turned from there and went towards the women. He (peace be upon him) said: O group of women, give charity, for I have seen that the majority of the inhabitants of Hell are you women. The women asked: O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! What is the reason for this? The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: You curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands. O group of women, I have not seen any creature more deficient in intelligence and religion who can take away the sense of a wise and experienced man than you. The women asked the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! What is the deficiency in our intelligence and religion? The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) asked: Is not the testimony of a woman half that of a man? The women replied: Yes. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: This is due to the deficiency in her intelligence. When a woman menstruates, does she not leave off prayer and fasting? The women replied: Yes. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: This is the deficiency in her religion. Then the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) turned from there and proceeded towards his house. The wife of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyidah Zainab (may Allah be pleased with her), sought permission to enter upon the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It was said in the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! Sayyidah Zainab (may Allah be pleased with her) wishes to enter. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: Which Zainab? He (peace be upon him) was told: The wife of Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him). The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: Yes, let this woman enter. She was given permission to enter. She said: O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! Today you have instructed us to give charity. I have some jewelry and I intended to give it in charity, but Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) thinks that he and his children are more deserving of it. Should I give this jewelry to them in charity? The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: He has spoken the truth; your husband and your children are more deserving of it, so give it to them in charity.
